I just don’t see it. The OP gloated a little about the election results, but that’s not out of the ordinary. It’s a legitimate debate topic, the post was civil, it wasn’t a rant, and there aren’t any insults.

You are correct. The OP is completely typical for the GD or Elections forum.

However, you got it wrong when you warned both BrainGlutton and Bob Blaylock despite only one of them being insulting and out of line.

Bob Blaylock posted what he thought about anti gun advocates:

The only people who are made safer as a result of gun control are criminals and tyrants. If you support gun control then that is whose side you are on.

BrainGlutton responded with insults:

The stupid . . . it not only burns, but rots and decays. Seriously, since you are apparently capable of typing and spelling the above, you cannot seriously believe a single word of what you so utterly shamelessly say.

BrainGlutton is the only one who deserved a warning there. Not Bob.

Warnings to both of you here. If some posters are incapable of discussing this issue civilly, they’ll get warned and be told to take their shtick to the appropriate forum. I’m not moving every gun-related thread to the Pit so people can rant and rave.

I could quote the rest of this post and about half the posts that came after it as examples of rules violations. Instead I will say one more time that this isn’t the forum for ranting and raving and insulting people. If you want to start a Pit thread, have at it. But if you want to call people liars and fools and dopes and killers, you can’t do it in this forum. I will be handing out warnings to people who “forget” this rule.

You should be able to hold your finger on the text and eventually it will highlight. But iPads work in mysterious ways, especially with older versions of browsers.

He said that of anyone who is opposed to gun rights. That’s quite a different thing than calling you out specifically as you did to him.

Your post was also far more insulting than his in it’s content as well.

“Let’s you and him fight” is a phrase people use to mock people who instigate fights but don’t want to start a fight for themselves. In other words, he is saying, if you want a pit thread, make it yourself.

I usually start by quoting the whole post. Then tap one word in a section I want to delete, tap again and “select” comes up. When it selects, you have blue slider buttons that you can use to select a block of text, then hit “cut” to get rid of it.

Pain in the ass, if you ask me, I don’t like posting when i’m on an iPad.

I gave up on the stupid gun news of the day thread in the pit awhile ago, but I’m back in it because despite how boring and repetitive it’s gotten, there are still thoughtful posters in there on both sides having a discussion around the usual pit crew.

Some of the best conversations take place in the pit. Am I wrong?

No, I mean this thread doesn’t belong in the Pit. The OP stated the topic in a way that was civil and totally acceptable for the forum, and most of the responses were also OK. If a couple of posters can’t discuss gun laws without insulting each other or breaking the rules, they need to stop.

Politically, i see eye-to-eye with you on plenty of things, but there’s nothing in that OP that warrants a move to the Pit.

First of all, welcome back. It’s really great to see you posting here again! Whether you know it or not, you have been missed.

And I agree with you 100% here (except the part about often seeing eye-to-eye with BG). There is nothing vitriolic about that OP. But, further, if I hadn’t stopped buying irony meters here a long time ago, the OP would have broken yet another one.

I found his post equally obnoxious and it was certainly at best a veiled insult but his comments were no different than people like Der Trihs making such comments about Christians, Republicans and conservatives.
