This video contains content from SME. It is not available in your country.

I am in Mexico, and occasionally I get this message when I visit YouTube. Who is SME? I did a Dogpile search and it is an acronym for many organizations. Why don’t they want my country to see it?

Looking over the list of organizations that use the acronym “SME”, I would bet money on it being Sony Music Entertainment. Can you link to a video or two on which you get this message?

Sony Music Entertainment. The videos contain music which they own the rights to and they’re not choosing to include Mexico in the set of countries where that music can be streamed via youtube.

Well that ain’t very Christian of 'em.

I won’t post links because I’m unsure of their legality in this forum, but a Google search for “YouTube proxy” should help you solve your problem.

SME is a humungous corporation dedicated to profit. Not Christian at all, actually.

Indeed, that sounds about as Christian as, say, the Catholic church.

But I digress. If Sony were to allow Mexicans unfettered access to, say, Jessica Simpson videos it could cause massive rumblings south of the border. It’s for your own good.

But it might be Shinto of them,

… considering that Sony is headquartered in Japan.

It very well may be that they don’t own the Mexican rights to the music.
