Those Amish Heaters

Have any of you bought one?

What do you think, was it a good investment?

Thanks

Q

It looks like a scam to me. Any evidence otherwise?

I LOVE those ads!

The Amish have imposed a STRICT LIMIT OF TWO PER HOUSEHOLD!!!

Those crazy Amish!

Those ads crack me up. Yeah, I believe there are a bunch of Amish in a barn somewhere assembling these things. We’re supposed to believe they’re good, and pure, and clean-burning, and safe, and green, and efficient, because look! They’re made by the Amish!

I smell scam.

My grandparents (in-law) have one. It isn’t really a scam, I mean, it is a heater that does produce heat. The ‘Amish made’ mantle is nice, i guess. But really, it is a cheap electric heater with a fan, no more or less.

It certainly won’t ‘save’ you money on heating bills and it is overpriced…

My friend has one of these in her drafty old farm house. We had it running when I was there in November.

I didn’t notice anything special about it - it was just a space heater with a fan. Only difference was it looked better than a space heater, was HUGE (she kept her TV on top of it) and was quite loud.

And if you cheat and order more than two, they can find you in their big Amish database.

I love that commercial because of how much I hate it. Everything about that ad reeks of manipulation and gimmicks. Amish my ass. Limit of two? Who the hell are they trying to fool? And the spokesperson is a total asswipe.

I also think the product looks cheap and tacky.

Just by a space heater from Home Depot for 40 bucks.

It is an electric heater, and can be compared to any electric heater, watt to watt, BTU to BTU, price to price.
The “Amish” heaters may smell like horseshit though, that’s how they heat their buggies.

Here’s the ad.

My favorite lines:

“How do you combine old-world Amish craftsmanship, with modern heating technology? The Amish aren’t telling.”

“Just cover the Amish mantels, and the Miracle Heater is free!”

“Now, you never have to be cold again.”

WTF?

Listen to the Heat Surge mimic the sound of a real fire.

I once got a 52" flat screen HD TV for free, all I had to do was buy the box.

I always thought the Amish were more reticent about having their pictures taken.

And if you see the print version of the ad, it’s a definite photoshop. You can see the flame pattern is the same in at least two of the heaters.

Not exactly as advertised.

Seriously, a ceramic heater will do the same job at a much lower price.

That reminds me of an email I got from a co-worker a few years ago. It was an Amish email virus, and said something like “Since the Amish don’t use computers, please forward this email to ten of your friends and then delete all files on your hard drive.”

So, do the Amish build the heaters, or just the mantels?

Is that cousin Mose building those mantles?

Just the mantels…if that. The heaters are made in China.

I went and listened. Sounds like a very small jet waiting on the runway, to me.

Also for some reason , comments were disabled for that video.

Hmmmm.

Wonder why?

I’m not knocking Amish craftsmanship and certainly not their religion, but I thought they were smarter than this?

Quasi

I saw “Amish heater” and I was thinking they were running guns now or something…

I found it hard to believe the the hardworking and honest Amish craftsmen would let themselves be filmed for the commercial.

Probably because they’re not Amish, they’re “Amish”.

The ads spell it “mantle.” If they would spell it right, they might make more sales.

I live just north of Amish country in Ohio. In case you were wondering … no, the roads are not clogged by those delightful Amish families taking the handcrafted heaters to the warehouse two at a time, like in the picture.

That picture cracks me up everytime.
