Funny, i don’t remember defending the OP. I just remember saying that your post was full of shit. And that hasn’t changed.
I didn’t say you defended the OP. My first post was a bona fide objection of exactly what I stated. This sort of thing is not done to any liberal groups by the media, or supporters of the same belief systems as the liberal groups.
As to your “full of shit” accusation.
Prove it. Do post a similar complaint by the media labeling an entire comparable liberal group of some heinous behaviour such as racism because of the actions of some members.
I will regret posting in the pit, but: Acorn, accused of helping pimps evade taxes for underage prostitutes on the altered videotape of one guy.
I don’t know about the substance of this debate, but as a matter of pure logic and form, I think your argument is presumptive. It may be that there is no such group.
You can’t simply assume that someone is evidencing bias because they say that one group of people are assholes and do not say that another group of people are assholes. It may be that the first group are assholes and the second are not.
So simple and yet… so good…

Does “the media” include Fox News?
No. By definition, the media plays a mediatory role, in effect, between the news makers and the news consumers. Advocacy groups are not media.
One branch of an agency was wrongly accused by one person (or two if you count his girlfriend). The entire media, entertainment industry, and half the American population, didn’t come out and lambast the entire ACORN agency for being pro-prostitute. But DAMN, the false filmmaker sure got lambasted!
It isn’t comparable to accusing an entire group of ordinary citizens of being racist because they disagree with the policies of the current administration.
My first post, while short and sarcastic, was an honest objection based on what I see. In the pit alone there are no fewer than three threads screaming bloody murder about the stoooopidity and brainlessness of everything the “conservatives” are doing nowadays. They’re never “wrong” but rather are morons and racists.
This is a widespread attitude among those disagreeing with them. They may be incorrect in their assessment of the current administration’s policies, or they may not. To behave so snottily and have the consistent belief that their being incorrect makes them “BURNING with stooopid” (and all the other cool hip sayings) is just petty and childish.
The objection to their objection is so overwhelmingly enraged, poisonous, and ugly. Not to mention no one has even the slightest interest in communication, it’s just “OH MY GAWD, you disagree with Camelot? YOU’RE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO idiotic”!
But that is the impetus for my irritation. The second group, according to so many, ( including the vast number of conservative pittings) are NEVER assholes, NEVER get tagged with similar accusations, nor are they ever wrong. Not according to the majority of the media (and a hell of a lot of dopers). That is what is getting so old.
I don’t often brave political pits. I prefer human interest pits, but I’m just so tired of this attitude. Yes, I disagree with the current administration’s policies. No I’m not Ms. Genius. My disagreeing with the policies going on doesn’t make me stupid or make others free to tag me a “teabagger”. Working two jobs and being in bad health doesn’t allow me to be much of a joiner.
And frankly it’s beyond moronic to arbitrarily dismiss someone’s beliefs with a simplistic “the STUPID, it BURNS”. At least have something of substance with which to back up why their opinion is wrong. At least have enough of a brain your own self to understand that wrong doesn’t equal stupid. And at least be able to verbalize your objections with more than a two word insult.
And yes (to the poster who stated this), the OP included a disclaimer about how this was just one guy. But then after he completed it, it was (paraphrased) I’m not saying they’re all like this BUT…" Not to mention the thread’s title.
Using the pit on this liberal-leaning message board as the basis for your observations is bound to result in some erroneous conclusions.
Observe this community a while, and see if your insistence that it’s a one-way street changes.
This place does not appear to be part of the media, entertainment community, citizenry at large nor widely known. It looks like a nutbag psycho conspiracy group, which isn’t really “the media” or the conservative public in general.
But yes, your first comment is correct, what do I expect from a community with the demographics of this one?. Again, mostly I avoid political posts, but sometimes I get tired of the simplistic, shrill, angry approach to the disagreement in policies between the two groups.
I have to admit though, I am curious about why there are always a lot of questions/complaints along the lines of “why do conservatives do X”? But hardly anyone ever appears to bother actually finding out what the answer is, or communicating. It’s much more fun and hip to be hateful and ugly.
Are you fucking serious? The entire media reported the story as essentially accurate without ever bothering to find out if it was and ACORN no longer exists as a result.
What exactly was your point, again? Conservatives are never jerks to liberals? Or is it just, the non-conservative media is never mean to liberals? Or what?
Just yesterday a facebook friend joined this group:
DEAR LORD, THIS YEAR YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTOR, PATRICK SWAYZIE. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE ACTRESS, FARAH FAWCETT. YOU TOOK MY FAVORITE SINGER, MICHAEL JACKSON. I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW, MY FAVORITE PRESIDENT IS BARACK OBAMA. AMEN
It has 500,000 fans. Is that enough people to be “widely known”? Wishing death on the president simply because you disagree with his policies is just a tad worse than calling someone racist on the same account.
Confirmation bias. There are plenty of people reading who don’t bother responding, and plenty of people responding who aren’t taking the “simplistic, shrill, angry approach” you hate so much (from liberals only).
Right. The idiocy isn’t widespread or endemic. At all. Nope.
Oh, look. Here’s a little something involving the entire Arizona House of Representatives.
Well, the conservative half, anyway.
But it’s just anecdotal! Not representative of any larger trend at all! Fringe lunatics!
Oh dear. Someone reeeeally wasn’t paying attention to that event.
Yes, seriously. My knowledge of this was from the Dope thread a few weeks (months?) back. That is in answer to this and the other posts asking me this question. Yes, I listen to the news, mostly on the radio in the car and some nightly TV news when I have a chance, between jobs. And the first time I saw this was here on the dope when another doper posted the expose’ of the film crew who’d done the original “interview”. I didn’t have a chance to read the entire thread, but did read the linked expose’ the OP provided.
My point, in answer to others who’ve asked this, is in objection to the attitude shown by the OP (but certainly not limited to him). Despite his/her disclaimers, the OP just couldn’t WAIT to get in here and announce “SEE?? We TOLD you they were all racists”. Protest against THAT attitude is my point. Neither could the other 4 or 5 pit thread authors of similar subjects. Neither can most of those opposed to those of us opposed to the current administration. It’s just such an atmosphere of people just so ready, so POISED to find any reason to discredit. It’s an absolutely poisonous, retaliatory attitude. The motive behind it is to discredit anyone who disagrees, because they disagree with anything it takes to discredit them, no matter how insulting.
Yes ** Algorithm **, a nest of the left is a silly place to make a stand, (but I’m an optimist). But where else would a person go to try and shed some light? Not to those who agree with them right? It’s a bit of a “brighten the corner where you are” on my part. There’s the slight possibility that one person might not have an immediate knee-jerk reaction to those in disagreement with this prez. Someone who’s maybe not with those that consistently whine "OMG they’re racist, they want children to go to bed hungry!”
That that person might think “what do they disagree with and why”? And/or “does their objection have merit”? If it does, what might it be? And then, they might actually listen to the answers without judging said answers racist before they’re even out of the other person’s mouth.
Makes note
“All people who want to cut government spending are racist.”
That’s not a position, an agenda, or a program. That’s a bumper sticker.
:dubious: This is a whoosh, right?
