Those sleveless jackets with narrow up-turned collars in Pakistan

What are they called? Are they considered equivalent to wearing a “suit and tie”?

Nehru jackets?

Waistcoat suits?

They’re apparently a shalwar kameez worn with a vest.

An embroidered vest worn over a sherwani (basically a long, fancy kurta) can be considered formal wear. They can be worn at weddings as well. There are also knee-length jackets with sleeves which might be even more formal.
