Those who shall be, forever mocked

What’s Sally Field done that she needs to live down? Is getting emotional upon winning the Academy Award for Best Actress supposed to be a lifelong embarrassment?

If I recall, at one time this board was about fighting ignorance. You’re repeating an urban legend. It was one of Kennedy’s greatest speeches, and the phrase you’re referring to (Ich bin ein Berliner) was both correct and understood by everybody there. Nobody thought he was referring to a pastry.

:smack: How could I have forgot Joe the Plumber?

The guy who accidently shot himself in front of a classroom full of students after declaring that he was the only person in the room competent to handle a firearm.

The news reporter in the canoe paddling through “flood waters.”

" I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!" Not so much for the little old lady but at the commercial itself.

Michael Vicks

“It wasn’t NOT funny!”

I never saw that before – it’s hilarious.

The lovely, but incomprehensible Caitlin Upton.

W.

I LOVE his VapoRub! That should more than make up for most anything. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d say, for sheer longevity of mockination, nobody can beat poor King Midas.

An oldie but goodie. Which brings to mind Nero, and Herod.

Oh yeah, Lot’s wife – who kinda became a pillar of the community. :stuck_out_tongue:

And, what happened in Sodom and Gomorrah stayed in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Wow- who pissed on your cornflakes?

Sally Field- her comment at the Academy Awards has been mocked repeatedly ever since. It is immaterial that she may be so talented that it doesn’t matter; the fact remains that people mock it. Which was the point of the OP.

Kennedy- urban legend or not, it’s one of those phrases that enough people have repeated and associated with the mis-translation that it has become a mockery.

And yes, as far as I know this board is still about fighting ignorance. End of lesson.

This thread is about what people did, not what they didn’t do.

And what people *do *is mock Fields and Kennedy, regardless of how misplaced that mockery is.

Star Wars Kid.

Aleksy Vayner, Impossible is Nothing. I wonder if that guy will ever get a job.

Aaaaand as a Philadelphian and Urban Legend research collaborator, Jerry Panacoli has been on the E! Network since that rumor started. His son, David Boreanaz (star of Angel) has been pretty successful too. Even MORE rumor says that the Gerbil theory was generated by his local network after he signed with E! network.

So, no forgiveness to the Philadelphians who believe anything. Why do ya think I moved?

I know that, you know that, lots of people on here and elsewhere (especially in Germany) know that, but JFK is still mocked for the supposed mistake.

Another one: George Galloway. British MP, leader of Respect. There are many things to hold against him, but he will never, ever live down the time he went on Big Brother and meowed while wearing a skin-tight red lyrca catsuit. He’s my MP. :frowning:

Wait, what?

What rumor? (Should I draw the obvious conclusion from your phrase “Gerbil theory”?)

And David Boreanaz couldn’t be his son; he’s only 13 years younger. The IMDB says Boreanaz is the son of another Philadelphia weatherman named Dave Roberts.
