Thoughts about the election that don't seem to belong anywhere else

Really? He’s gonna fly back and forth weekly, or more. On your dime. In the event on a National Emergency, he’ll be at home. In New York!

(Would it have been okay if OBama had tried that, I wonder?)

(Also, I think everyone on earth should begin to call Melania, “Natasha”, from now on!)

TL: DR, so sorry if this has been said, but: It just occurred to me that stalling on Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland paid off for Republicans.

Sadly, it did. I DETEST the smug look on that bastard Mitch McConnell’s face.
I read somewhere that Donald flew home every night because he has that “shy bladder” thing where he can only use his own toidy. Can’t find a reference.

His personal physician thinks he’s crazy.

He’s the CEO of America, the big picture guy. He’s got a VP and staff do all that tedious detail stuff.

Yeah, it’s frustrating, but as the election showed us, the polarization is so bad now that voters are willing to accept any tactic in opposition.

Makes me wonder if that’s the new normal now. Not that it can’t change, of course, and it probably will, at least to some extent, but I wonder how long it’ll take.

He may face significantly greater risk of assassination than Obama, who in turn faced significantly greater risk of assassination than GWB.

Yeah, I’m not worried about that expense - we’re going to have a lot more important things to worry about. I’ve accepted that Trump is going to do things that no other president has (and get away with it like no other president could), but I think it is important we, as the loyal opposition, focus on the big things and not get bogged down on things like a 90 min commute.

I posted this in another thread (and may post it in more in the hopes that more people will see it): Jon Stewart on the election and on America. Seriously, I’d love to see this guy run for office. Any office.

The fact that Trump is so uninformed or inexperienced in politics means that he may be the most intensely lobbied POTUS of all time. People of all sorts of different political agendas will see him as someone potentially sway-able to their side or cause.

As an exercise in sheer mathematical absurdity, it is Electoral College-y possible for Candidate A to get only about 20 votes, and for Candidate B to get over 100 million votes, and for Candidate A to win the presidency.

Candidate A needs to get 1 vote in about twenty states, with nobody showing up to vote for Candidate B, and Candidate B needs overwhelming, unanimous voter turnout in the other 30 states.

I don’t have a cite for this at my fingertips-- I’m on my kindle. But many of you will remember when Tom Daschle had to turn down an Obama appointment because the Republicans pointed out an irregularity in his income tax return-- it was something like he had accepted a car or the use of a car and hadn’t declared it as income. And then there were the Nannygate cases where prominent gummint folks hadn’t handled their kids’ nanny’s social security properly. These offenses tanked appointments and kept people out of top jobs.

And now we have a President-Elect settling lawsuits out of court. :smack: Republican standards have surely fallen.

My random thought: After reading about the chaos of Trump’s campaign, I’ll bet we’ll see a pretty chaotic administration. Whether things can get done or not is an open question. After all, he did win the election when everyone thought he wouldn’t

Another random thought: Either Trump simply need his kids around to feel safe or his son-in-law is trying to gain ever more power by first horning in on campaign decisions and now sticking his nose into transition stuff. Mark my words, he will end up being a key advisor in the new administration. If only he had actual experience. I’ll bet he ends up clashing with Bannon.

*I *would want protection with all those House Republicans smirking around.

We may see a rebirth of the Julian story, with a stabbed Donaldus clutching the air on his back as the daggers withdraw.
Et tu, Ryan ? Et tu ?

Never thought I would see Republicans supporting Russia. Reagan would be spinning in his grave rapidly enough to generate electricity.

But surely these people with actual experience are members of the swamp–who need to be gotten rid of/ignored?

Republicans hated Communists and loved right-wing dictators. Why would Ronnie object to Putin? :stuck_out_tongue:

Read an article saying that some electors are getting flooded with messages and threats imploring them to vote for someone other than Trump. Said that this happened after Election Day 2000, too. Why aren’t their identities being kept secret?
