I can’t say I’m happy Trump won, but I am giddy that Hillary lost. No one in America deserves a stake through the heart more than that abomination.

Well, propaganda matters. The right wing have done a spectacular job of it for decades, and now the Park Avenue elite have one of their own (sort of) in the White House.
The raping and pillaging will commence promptly.
Aside that being a moot point given the 22nd amendment, I don’t think so. Exit polls, which probably understate Trump, show Americans wanted a more conservative President today than has been President in the last 8 years. Before the campaign began, his job approvals were middling, and his approval and disapproval were in a dead heat. They likely went up as a result of the campaign, or as a valedictory goodbye. Ditto his favorable/unfavorable.
Also, look at how utterly badly Trump demolished Hillary in the South, worse than Romney and McCain against Obama in most states, and really badly in states Bill Clinton won twice. Even aside from those states, there is a correlation between states.
Also, that 3rd term thing loomed. Both Bush I and Gore got both smaller portions of the two-party vote than their nominee predecessors, as did popular vote losers Nixon 1960 and HHH, as well as Truman 1948. Bush Sr. probably would’ve lost to a stronger nominee, given his polling troubles against Dukakis until the tank and Horton.
Indeed, and one should not forget how Pete Wilson did win the governorship in California by supporting anti immigration initiatives. Of course the results the Republicans got later were a demonstration of that ideological overreach because nowadays California became and is now as Blue as ever. You really have another think coming.
What will Trump do? I expect he’ll do what’s best for Trump, whatever that turns out to be.
My hope at this point is that people pay attention for the next two and four years. If the deficit, the unemployment rate, the crime rate, whatever, goes up or down, I just hope people will believe it. He has his chance to govern. I just want him to be judged fairly on his record the next time we have a chance to vote.
California had been trending blue before Wilson’s 1994 election, one that happened in a GOP national wave that swept longtime stalwarts like Mario Cuomo, Jim Sasser, and other Congressional and Stateside Dems. Bush Sr. barely won California in 1988, the margin of victory was < 3%. Clinton beat George I by double digits in 1992.
Hillary was the candidate of corporate America.

Last time I checked, an election just hapenend, California is still blue. Point is that if you were correct the repudiation would had been more severe, but in reality Clinton did lose by very few points in a few battleground states. There is then more reason to realize that Trump and the Republicans will overreach a lot thinking that they are justified.
