I have been looking for silver linings all year in other areas of life- looks like it was a warm up.
I think a lot of people feel left out in America. Hopefully they will get thrown a bone under Trump.
I’d like to delve into this one a bit, if you’re willing.
The question is what constitutes an accusation of “ignorant yahoo”-ism? Are you referring to literal “Half the country is ignorant” rhetoric, or do you mean that this is an inference people are making when Democrats point out that there is still a lot of racism and sexism and they’re bad, or that climate change is happening and is a dire threat?

It’s a winning strategy for conservatives. I don’t get it.
The problem is that Dems se EVERYTHING as racism or sexism or corporate greed. Don’t think Obama would make a good president? You don’t want a Black President ergo you’re a racist. Don’t think Clinton would be a good president? It’s because she’s a woman right, you sexist. Think we should stop illegal immigration? What - brown people shouldn’t be allowed to make a better life? You’re a racist.
My wife is an elementary school teacher and she is inconsolable.
Her entire career is based on teaching kids that education is important, that bullying and bigotry is bad, that being an a**hole is not a proper way to live. She has no idea what she’s going to say to her pupils this morning.
Democrats did overblow the racism/sexism thing this election and it shows. It really easy to take potshots at Trump and his supporters over the crazy comments , but the network I was watching from consistently ranked the economy as the most important issue to voters.
Look at the rust belt which had women voting for Trump, and probably couldn’t care less about the giant Mexico wall. Are they lumped in with deplorables or do they have legitimate concerns that need to be addressed?
Of course they have legitimate concerns. And Clinton had policy proposals that are targeted to help them. Trump did not. So why did they vote for Trump? Because he said “America is losing”?
Every time – EVERY DAMN TIME – a Democrat criticizes something about the country, the Republicans line up behind the microphone to denounce how UNAMERICAN it is to criticize the country. If you didn’t support the invasion of Iraq, you were a traitor. If you even so much as suggested that perhaps the American Dream wasn’t within reach for some subsets of the population, you were a race-baiter. If you wanted American kids to eat more healthy foods, you were a controlling nanny-stater. If you pointed out that America has made mistakes in the past, you became Apologist-in-Chief.
Then the Republicans nominate a guy whose primary campaign theme is that America is no longer “Great”, and all of a sudden he’s “telling it like it is” and speaking to the concerns of the American heartland.
It doesn’t make sense. There has to be something else at work.

Both. You don’t have to be a racist or a sexist to vote for Trump, but you have to be OK with a racist and sexist campaign.
A similar type of thing happened up here in Canada, in our last federal election. The Conservatives weren’t doing well in the polls, so they started talking about setting up “barbaric cultural practices” tip lines, and just going all in on the xenophobia. You can’t vote for them after that and just brush it off, even if it’s not the reason you cast your vote.
What’s racist is not stopping illegal immigration. What’s racist is saying that the illegal immigrants are predominately criminals coming here to commit crimes.
It’s not racist to oppose Obama. But liberals look at center-left Obama along with the disproportionately vitriolic response to what seemed to be fairly reasonable proposals and we’re left searching for some explanation.
It’s not sexist to oppose Clinton. But liberals look at center-left Clinton along with the complete refusal to acknowledge her capability and intelligence and we’re left searching for some explanation.
Honest question: What would a Democrat president who could be tolerated by the American right look like? What would his or her policies be?

Fuck the political elites, fuck their candidate puppets, fuck neo-liberalism, fuck metropolitan media, fuck middle class professionals and their hand wringing cosseted bubbles, happy Christmas.
What you don’t understand is that it is NOT hyperbole. I was called a racist so many times in 2008 simply because I questioned Obama’s experience and proposed policy. Invariably I would be told that the reason I didn’t want to vote for him because he’s black.
Mrs. Cad is convinced that the media held Clinton to a higher standard (yeah like CNN who gave Clinton the town hall questions ahead of time) over the emails simply because she’s female. I told her that in a political campaign there is no telling what will stick with the voters (Dukakis in a tank, Willie Horton) or who will be teflon (Bill Clinton). Didn’t convince her.
Heard on NPR today a writer who basically said EVERY Trump voter was racist.
Racism/sexism is the standard response from a Dem in most situations.
Yeah, about that last part… Is it safe to assume that concerns about Obama’s lack of experience were a tad disingenuous, in light of the election of a man who has literally no experience in public service, the judiciary, the military, or even practicing law?
Exit polls show that people who ranked “the economy” as the most important issue were more likely to vote Clinton (52% vs 42%). The people who thought “immigration” or “terrorism” were #1 were the ones leaning for Trump.
And Trump’s rhetoric on those two topics was quite unabashedly racist. Seriously: this is a man who was endorsed by an avowed white supremacist group, on the grounds that he would make the nation more receptive to their agenda.
