Why are there so many never ending threads about God spread across GW, GD, and IMHO? Can’t we create a “God Forum” to which all such threads may be sent? I’m speaking as one who recently opened a thread concerning a bible story do I’m not innocent. But it seems to me that there are no answers to any of these threads, except those where factual questions are asked and factual answers may be given. We have a forum for Barn Building, for god’s sake, and another for Chicago; both seem to have limited interest. I’d like to see a “God Forum” that we who are not interested and have nothing to contribute might simply ignore the idiocy. I know, we could ignore it now but I’d like to see them all in one “Ignore This” category.
I have a headache and I’m bored silly, if you want to know why I started this thread. I would have put it in the “Ignore This” category if we had one.
I forgot to add in my opening, if anyone else bothers to read it, people who respond to such threads should be allowed to respond “with the Gloves off.” That is, profanity should be okay as should personal insults. That way, the readership should go up as should the interest level. People who claim miracles should be required to include proof in their claims and so forth.
Sure, if there is another seperate forum for all the millitant atheists of this board who make the assumption that anyone who believes in God is stupid. Because I don’t want to read THAT crap anymore.
That sounds like you’re envisioning the purpose of the new forum as a place where atheists can say “No, you idiot, God doesn’t exist”. Don’t you think that the administration taking an official stand like that would have something of a chilling effect on debate?
If you want to actually debate the existence of God, GD is the place for that. If you just want to call theists stupid poopy-heads, that’s why we have the Pit.
And people who claim God doesn’t exist must prove that “God” – in all of its definitions – doesn’t exist and so forth.
I think that most debates about God are worthless. Believers, including myself, can’t fully comprehend what we are talking about to begin with and non-believers generally boil it down to something imaginable but silly.
Why stick one-sided requirements on it?
But I’m not opposed to a separate forum. I think She deserves it.
GQ: two religious threads out of 110, neither of them directly about God.
GD: six religious threads out of 38, of which only two or three are directly about God. (They include “Will there be gravity in heaven?” and “What’s a graven image?”)
IMHO: zero religious threads out of 87.
Your premise fails. Out of the three forums in questions, only 3% of threads are religious, and 1% are about God. The only forum with any significant number of threads about God is, unsurprisingly, Great Debates, where they account for about 10% of threads.
There aren’t nearly enough threads about God or religion to support a new forum, and they are easily enough avoided in GD. We would probably have a better case for opening a new forum for Canadian football.
No, that’s the null hypotheis. It doesn’t have to be proven. It is the default assumption. Just because you can imagine something exists doesn’t mean that thing you imagine suddenly has a chance of existence equal to non-existence. There are an infinite number of things you can imagine, and it’s fatuous to say they all have to be disproven.
Do you have any problem saying the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn’t exist, or do you think it’s possible that it might.
As to the OP, the GD forum is the designated forum for God discussions and witnessing. If people are starting those threads in other forums, they aren’t supposed to (unless maybe they are asking factual GQ questions about theology or doctrine).
