On several Discord servers I’ve seen new rules posted outright forbidding linking to Twitter anymore. Both because of Musk’s Nazi salute and because Twitter/Musk has apparently basically stopped enforcing moderation against child porn. And Bluesky is regularly suggested as an alternative to Twitter.
I suspect that’s helping push more people to move to Bluesky recently.
It’s about one user per second at the moment and 280k short of 30M so maybe in three days if my calculations are correct.
A lot of sports subreddits are banning X links now including r/nfl. As the sports teams and leagues and writers move over, we will see another surge. The first one was mostly liberal news organizations and pundits.
I’m enjoying being on Bluesky but getting overloaded on political posts. I’ve started a personal list of cat-centric accounts and will probably do another list or two for photography, archaeology and history, so I can take a break from politics when I’m there.
You can dig around in settings and find ways to hunt for various interests that you can put into a list for your account.
I’ve accumulated over 1.1k followers at this point, but don’t automatically follow back. I always check anyone who likes a post or follows me: hover my cursor over their avatar to check the profile that comes up; if it looks interesting, then click into their account and skim through their posts to see if they’re legit and someone I’d like to follow.
That’s what I do, too. The Starter Packs are clearly good for Bluesky as they help it grow, but personally I prefer to deal with followers on a one-by-one basis.
Oh, yes, Cats of Yore I’ve followed since Twitter. You can also find Jorts (and Jean), Larry the Cat, Fishtopher and Friends, and others that I first came across BM (before Musk).
