I tried to find a thread on Threads, but it is hard to search for “Threads” on the Dope!
So - has anyone joined yet? I’m @rmix2610. I just joined about an hour ago, so I’m not sure what’s up. It’s tied to Instagram, so you can import all your follows/followers, or pick and choose.
I don’t know if I will or not. I don’t have Instagram and I dumped Twitter ages ago because it wasn’t worth my time. Between the Dope and Facebook, I waste too much of my day anyway. Maybe I’ve just become an old grouch…
I barely participate in Facebook anymore. I am on Twitter, but it’s changed so much since Musk effed it up! I really don’t participate on Instagram either, but this new Threads app looks promising - even if just to jack with Evil Musk!
I downloaded Threads. It doesn’t seem to hold my place, the way Twitter does. It always puts me at the Newest. Also, I can’t figure out how to only see posts from people I follow. I don’t want it jamming all kinds of content at me – like Twitter, I just want to read jokes, etc., from people I like.
I didn’t realize this new Threads thing was part of instragram. I fear it will ruin it. It’s the only social media I use, mostly to see photos my family takes (and follow a few local businesses I like).
The “comments” I get exposed to are mostly along the lines of “great pic, so pretty.”
I do notice that EV ads, for example, are full of shit like “Biden won’t force me into a golf cart, gas engines 4evR!”
If I don’t sign up for Threads, will my Instragram remain the same?
Yeah, but if you do sign up it’s one way. In other words, if you try Threads by tying it to your IG, and then decide you don’t like it, you can’t delete Threads only; it’s now one profile and you have to delete both.
For now, anyway. Enough people have complained about this limitation that Zuck might have to cave.
Had zero interest in Twitter, and exactly the same interest in this. I am on Facebook, but I refuse to install even Messenger which they split from FB years ago.
Please take a very close look at the permissions/privacy issues with the Threads app (and the way they trap you into not deleting it) before you consider downloading this.
While Threads could end up being less toxic than Twitter (no sure thing) it might not be the lesser of two evils. Caveat emptor.
