In the TV drama Threads I kept wondering where the foreign aid was? IIRC it wasn’t explicitly said if other parts of Europe were nuked so does anyone have any thoughts about this?
I think this is one of the most depressing things I’ve ever seen and I was saddened again to find out that Victoria O’Keeffe the actress who played Jane at the end, died in real life in 1990 at the age of 21.
I’m pretty sure it was a full scale NATO vs Warsaw Pact conflict, sparked by the use of tactical nuclear weapons during the Soviet invasion of Iran. The subsequent nuclear winter also suggests that it was a very large exchange.
That was my understanding, and the Wikipedia entry supports that.
(I have a copy of this on VHS, but no VCR to watch it on any longer. I wish they’d release it on DVD).
