Three Minute Mysteries, or How Come? Chapter II

Are you folks ready for another go?

(For reference)

A man goes up to the counter and hands the woman a book. She tells him, “That will be $7.59.” He hands her a ten, gets his change, and then walks away, leaving the book on the counter. Oddly enough, she doesn’t make any effort to call him back.

How come?

Are they at a Library?

If so was the book overdue?

Letting my inner child run loose and break things.

Is he in a library?

“I thought: opera, how hard can it be? Songs. Pretty girls dancing. Nice scenery. Lots of people handing over cash. Got to be better than the cut-throat world of yoghurt, I thought.” - Seldom Bucket

Was the man returning an overdue library book?

I suggest you make them a LITTLE bit harder, Rick

Sheesh!

A cigar to Redwing, and a note to myself: this one isn’t as cryptic as I thought!
OK.

A woman is thought to be responsible for the deaths of two people. The victims are sisters, and there’s no question that the woman killed one of them. But the authorities do not arrest or even question her - she’s simply sent home.

How come?

Did she defend herself or one of the sisters?

Coldfire asks:
