I was hoping for just one more 24 episode season.
So is each season going to be broadcast in a different year? We have to wait til 2010 to get to the end of this?!

With eight month breaks between new episodes it may be hard for ABC to maintain the ratings into 2010.
Depending on how they end things and if the show is still popular, they could always do a spinoff called “Found”.
I was hoping they’d have 108 episodes total. That would have a nice symmetry.
But what group will they now start killing off? They’ve taken care of all the black folks, either through leaving (Michael, Walt), killing (Klugh, Eko), or just plain forgetting (Rose).
Then again, they’ve made some good progress on the hispanics (Nicki, Paolo, Anna Lucia), so maybe Hugo is in danger!
I’m fantastically ill right now (and 2000 miles from home, which really helps), but this just occurred to me. I’m generally not one of those to see racism everywhere, but this does seem quite the trend.

Three MORE seasons? Seriously?
Holy shit, it’s going to be just terrible. I’m sorry, but there isn’t that much story left, is there? They can’t spend another three seasons not asking questions and not trying to get off the island, can they?
They’ve killed plenty of white people. Jack’s dad, Locke’s dad, Kate’s dad, What’s 'er name with Ana Lucia, Ethan, the other Other, the other other Other, Arnz or whatever his name was, that chick who drowned, more I’m sure I’m not remembering. I didn’t read Nikki as Latino. I don’t think they’re wiping out minorities with any greater aplomb than white folk.
How come they haven’t killed off any gays? Huh? You gotta kill off at least one gay.
I think it’s a least one season too long. Though I think it will make it easier to retain cast members to have a firm end date.
Well, considering Nikki is played by an actress whose last name is “Sanchez”, I’m going to guess she’s not a combination of Irish/Scottish.
Besides, it’s not like it’s a theory near and dear to my heart, and I’m not saying that they haven’t killed off plenty of whiteys. However, we have run out of black folks, and the Latinos seem to be getting thinner on the ground.
You think Bluebeard Tom is going to survive the series?

I think this is a really, really bad idea.
There is no way that the ratings will keep up until 2010, so the series will get cancelled mid-season.
Stupid, idiotic network-people.
Don’t they ever learn?
I think it’s just about right, and I seriously doubt a projected end date of 2010 will hurt the viewership. I mean, look how many rabid and not-so-rabid fans waited out the hiatus this season despite the lackluster first 6 episodes the writers phoned in and in the wake of promises of big reveals going unfulfilled. If anything, having a projected end date can only help the show gather an even larger, more rabid fan base once all those disgruntled x-philes who shook their heads sadly and bailed after season 2 come back. (I’m looking at my husband, here)
I agree that a more polished, logical (did I just say that?) story arc can emerge now that the writers can plan for a known ending.
As to the short-run seasons on network tv, I also think this is a great idea whose time has come . Following a schedule more like “Six Feet Under” or “The Sopranos” will give the writers, producers, cast and crew a more reasonable amount of time to create a better product. Scheduling a long hiatus each year will also allow the actors to accept other significant roles while riding the popular wave of the show.
Everybody wins…especially the fans.
The ethnicity of an actor does not necessarily translate to the ethnicity of the character.
Ethan killed Scott.
Otto:
Perhaps not, but I’m pretty sure her last character’s name was said to be Fernandez.
I suppose it’s possible, but I’m not so sure. I’ve been following the Lost threads since season 2, and the overwhelming issue the majority of viewers had with the show is that it seemed like the writers were floundering. ABC was going to force the show to keep going as long as it had good ratings, forcing the writers to come up with weird, convoluted, and unnecessary stuff to stretch the plot out as long as possible, etc. I’m not saying the SDMB readership is necessarily indicative of the typical Lost viewer, but I think just knowing the show will end at some point will be sufficient for a lot of people to keep going.
If you’re thinking it’s the short seasons that’s a problem, I don’t really see that it will. As long as people remember that the show was good, they’ll be eager to tune back in once it starts again, no matter how long it was between shows. I personally am stoked about Eureka coming back, even though I haven’t seen an episode since last summer and there were only about 12 episodes total. It was a good show and I want to see it again. I think it will be the same for Lost, presuming the writers can get back on track.
Exactly.
This is very, very frustrating.

Hmmm…
Maybe you’re right.
I didn’t realize that the cable shows were already scheduled like this.

Also, y’all are acting like 2010 is a long, long way away. It’s only three years. We’re livin’ in the future, maaan.
Those of us in the ‘don’t buy any green bananas’ stage of life may have a different perspective.
