Three Taco Bell employees kill robber

What alarm bells are being triggered by punctuation marks…jeez this 2017…you mean to say computers can’t get around that…their computers in China…what about their alphabet is easy? Russians have quite a few punctuations…their computers seem to be handling it okay…

Do you know who else stands up for their mistakes no matter how wrong they are?

I partly agree and partly call it as YMMV. Some semis only function 100% on FMJ so you either risk a shoot-through with them or a possible jam. It one of the reasons I like revolvers. I mix with two jacketed hollow points (+P) for solid stopping power at close range, two full wadcutters for top accuracy, and 1 or 2 (depending on if I’m packing say a model 49 or a model 10) lead round nosed with a flattened tip.

Come on!!

Well you can’t. You could put out an eye, or worse!

No one’s addressed the question of what Taco Bell did with the guy’s body. I’d stick with McDonald’s for a few days.

And any of a number of names from languages where the apostrophe represents a phoneme (like a glottal stop.)

And, wait, is it seriously being posited in this thread that Wayne is one of these “red flag” names (when used as a middle name)? Seriously? I’m gob-smacked. What other naming rules am I unaware of?

I certainly want to know about this name thing…I have 2 daughters…child bearing years coming on quickly…i need some solid proof…so I can pass it along…anyone out there got verifiable cites…i cannot believe this a real thing!

Regarding the “Wayne” thing, I remember that Chuck Shepherd’s News of the Weird column had a running tally of murderers, serial killers and the like with Wayne in their name and the list seemed surprisingly long. (The original webpage seems to be unavailable now, though.)

Here is a link to that page from the Wayback Machine in 2015.

Old thread on Wayne. Shagnasty is insisting on this there, too. Interesting info in there but no definite conclusions.

Chinese doesn’t have an alphabet, its a logography. And most computer systems use the 26 English-standard Latin characters, not much way around it. Russian, Chinese, etc. have semi-standardized ways of converting to Latin characters.

And I assure you that apostrophes break computer systems as I’ve seen it. It’s especially fun if it allows it during username creation, but later on weird bug occur because a different aspect of the system disallows apostrophes.

I was more speaking to semis, revolvers have slightly different choices. But you’ll find that the vast majority of police carry hollow points (or something with a similar concept). They’re not some magical category that implies malice.

Theories be damned. If I have a kid, I’m naming it D’Wayne Harvéy D’Wayne.

Obviously, only if it’s a girl. If I have a boy, I’m naming him Sue. After his grandfather.

Because execution isn’t among the penalties our system of justice metes out for convicted robbers - even convicted armed robbers.

Vigilantes have no business meting out punishment on their own, let alone punishment that is way above and beyond what the law would mete out.

Note: I’m not talking about when shit is still going on, when armed robbers are waving weapons around and you have no idea whether they’re going to shoot you or someone else. In that sort of situation, you’re not killing them (if you are able to do so) because they’re a robber; you’re killing them to defend yourself and others from being killed.

But if someone’s robbed you and is walking away with your money and your credit cards, you have no business shooting them. That’s execution, not self-defense. It’s immoral, and while IANAL, I’d bet a good chunk of change that it’s illegal as well.

You have it completely backwards. In the heat of the moment, when things are happening so fast, you almost don’t even have the time to be afraid. Your hands will still shake, but it’s not fear, it’s pure adrenaline. In my case, there was also a lot of rage, which drowned out almost everything else.

It’s later, once you realize deep-down that the scary parts are over and that you are going to live to see tomorrow, that you start thinking about what you have done and wrapping your head around it. Someone is dead, because of you. Someone else isn’t going home ever again, because of you. It’s almost certain that multiple someones are now grieving the loss of their child/parent/sibling/lover/friend, and it’s all because of you. You have taken everything away from that person, everything they are and everything they could have been, and you have to find a way to live with that blood on your hands.

I’m not a “fairly sane and empathetic person,” and the experience still left huge scars that I will live with for the rest of my life. If you honestly think that the experience wouldn’t mess up your mind at all, I sincerely hope you never find out how completely fucking wrong you are.

I don’t care if they call it logography or alphabet soup…it is insane to think whole computers systems shutdown because of puncuations…I don’t believe it happens very much…maybe a fragile system or something…not regular computers…If they do …something is really wrong…i am holding a very small ‘computer’ in my hand right now that has no probs with accent marks or periods or dashes or whatever…maybe ‘some’ computer analysts or operators have a problems using them daily…pisses 'em off, maybe

This is, perhaps, one of the single most astoundingly ignorant posts i’ve read on this message board. And that’s in the face of a LOT of competition.

It’s even more gob-smacking coming from someone who periodically claims to have done graduate-level work in the social and cognitive sciences. Are you sure you weren’t expelled from your PhD program?

Thank you!!

It would seem to me that, through chance alone, some names are going to slip by as being over-represented with serial killers, murderers, etc. C’est la gaussian distribution.

And for this name thing…wouldn’t it be more reasonable to suggest that Wayne is just a very popular name…like say…John or Joe…Mary or Sue…more population with a certain name would mean greater number of any given group of people to have the same name…And to add further…there were so many girls named Alexis in my daughters graduating class even teachers couldn’t keep up with them. ( 3 had the same last name…Smith)…they were continuously mixed up…Also two of them were pregnant in 12th grade…so the joke was not to date them unless you felt like becoming a father…there you have…I’ll say no more on the subject…

[bolding mine]

With respect, I think the comments I bolded above are at the root of the troublesome scars you’re having to deal with. No, it isn’t because of you, it’s because of him. He initiated the incident and he put you in danger. You merely reacted to the threat he posed, and the only alternative would be to do nothing and hope he didn’t kill you. And yes, it’s a shame that he (I’m assuming it was a male) has family and loved ones grieving his loss, but again that’s on him. It was the decisions he made and the actions he took that resulted in the loss of his life. IMO, it’s a sign that you are a good person that you feel as you do, but you really need to give yourself a break. No one should have to go through life feeling guilt or remorse for not lying down in the face of a mortal threat and willfully putting their lives in the hands of someone who’s already shown they’re threatening and don’t think straight.
