Throwing dog poop in someone else's garbage

yes, even then. There’s many times when I’ve put the trash out for collection, and then added more trash to the can. In between putting it out and the collection. Putting it out does not indicate that I’ve used all the space I want.

Really how much space does a bag of doo take up? Our Sampson is a 62 pound Lab and usually puts out one good pile a day. When out in public, I never remember dropping the droppings in a residential trash container. I do look around for containers away from people. I avoid the ones in the park next to the picnic shelter. Lacking an alternative, I do give the smokers at the door to stores.

I found someonewho doesn’t like it…
We had thesewhen I was a kid. I can’t believe no one has mentioned it.

Here is what I am seeing in this thread.

  1. A lot of people who do this, do it anonymously for various reasons most of them related to guilt.
  2. People seem to think that their dog poop is someone else’s responsibility.

This happened to us several times recently. The leaver will put it into our empty cans and it gets stuck on the bottom in a little baggy. I got tired of fishing the bag out because even after several trash pickups, it would stay at the bottom. I left a note near our garbage cans asking them politely not to do this. Their response was to take the note and leave another bag where the note was.

It isn’t the biggest issue, but it is bothersome to note that a neighbor wishes to be deliberately rude about this but also doesn’t have the courage behind their convictions to actually identify themselves.

So, in my mind, if you are going to do this and feel guilty about it, then stop doing it when asked. If you can’t do what you are doing when you are exposed then you shouldn’t be doing it anyway.

Just as long as they don’t leave it on the sidewalk or grass in front of my house, which they do. Grr.

It’s been deleted now, but there was a post on craigslist here looking for a person to stake out this guy’s truck, and find out who had been throwing dog crap into the bed

I use other people’s trash cans and have never had a complaint, and people tend to hang out on their porches a lot over here.

Friends of mine live on a street with lots of walkers, human and canine. Their garage is just large enough to hold 2 cars, and their driveway is less than 6’ long. So their garbage can, which sits right outside the garage door, is always within easy reach of the sidewalk. They dislike it when people deposit bags of dog poop in their garbage can, because there is a good chance that it will sit there for several days, and if it’s one of the first things in the can, there is a chance that future garbage deposits will squish the bag o’poop.

Just think how bad zombie dog poop smells!

Rarely do I post on message boards but this topic has me so irked that I had to post. It seems most people do not find this an issue but please consider this. I have a 64 gallon garbage can (it appears to be the standard size in the suburbs of NJ). It is too tall for you to easily reach and grab a bag of dog doo. Now here is the bigger issue, when the garbage man collects the trash, he leaves the lid open to show you that he collected it. On days that it rains you can often have a large puddle at the bottom. On days that it snows you can have a bunch of snow on the bottom. Now imagine having to fish out that crap in a pool of poop water when it leaks. Or how about during the winter when it melts and turns to ice and the bag is trapped in there.

I think people fail to realize that often the garbage man just pulls out the bags rather than picks up the entire can (especially given how the sizes of cans have inflated). And thus the owner of the can (and not the owner of the dog) is left with this mess. For me, I’m come home late at night, and I can’t even see that its in there until several days later when I’m taking out the trash. Imagine how frustrated it is.

This has happened several times over the past year. Just this weekend we bought a new garbage can and what do we find today? A bag of poo and a half drank cup of coffee at the bottom of our can spilling all over the place. Do you think the garbage man is going to take that out of a trash can?

I’m so frustrated by this that:

  1. I’m searching online about this topic to see how others handled it
  2. Seriously contemplating spending hundreds of dollars on a camera system so I can figure out who it is so I can just start dumping this trash on their lawn for them to clean up.

Any other solutions? :smack:

Anyone recall the skit by George Carlin, about people who feed their dogs rubber bands, so when they take a dump, it’s easier to pick up the dung and sling it into the neighbors yard?

I wouldn’t have a problem at all and have seen bags of doggie poop in my trash cans. I have also put poop bags in the neighbor’s cans but not in plain sight.

But what about poop from zombie dogs?

This used to not bug me. But lately there has been this one guy who seems to prefer my garbage over all others. EVERYDAY he walks by and drops of his crap, and proceeds half a block down the alley to his own home. I take out a bag of trash on the weekend and the stench of five bags warming in a natural oven nearly knocks me over. Now I’m a little pissed. I’m now wheeling my bin into the yard and only bringing it out on trash day.

Do multiple-zombie dogs poop?

My can is usually not dumped by the garbagemen–I have a large one on wheels; they reach down as far as they can, but those little bags of poop stay at the bottom. My lovely neighbors usually throw their dog poop in the can AFTER the trash has been picked up. To make matters worse, when it is raining, the mixture of water and (let’s face it, the bag isn’t SEALED) feces makes a disgusting ‘soup’. Even if it doesn’t get wet it gets ridiculously foul in the summer heat. I have had to clean out the can more times than I care to remember; it’s interesting that no one walking their dog ever throws the waste in the can if I’m outside, which indicates that they know they might be committing some sort of infraction. Today when I went to retrieve my can which had been emptied not even an hour before, I found another freshly discarded present from a lazy neighbor. I’m really sick of cleaning the can, so I affixed some homemade signs saying: NO DOG WASTE PLEASE!! THE SANITATION WORKERS DO NOT REMOVE IT! Don’t be so quick to judge someone for something most of you think is no big deal.

That’s just rude (of your neighbor). But how does he get to your garbage can? Does he walk into your yard or into your garage?

It’s a interesting resurrected thread. If it were a diaper change of a infant (human), I would have no issue with it - actually if it would help I would put a sign up to actually use the garbage for such disposal if and when needed.

Though a dog owner I somewhat do have a issue. I think a large part has to do with what I see of many dog owners basically insisting that the public accept their dog, and many dogs in this category that have owners who have not trained them to be pubically acceptable.

Also in the case of a human infant, the use of the garbage to dispose of a diaper is a one off thing, in the case of a dog it is likely to be ongoing, in which case the dog owner should find a alternative.

No.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about this thread. Guess since it’s up top again I’ll post an update…which is that I always carry the poop home with me and throw it in my own trash.

I live in Chicago and our garbage cans are in the alley. I keep witnessing a neighbor—across the street, let her dog crap on other’s neighbor’s front lawns. I think this is disgusting–it’s not even on the parkway. But–she will pick it up. What gets me is that she will walk OUT OF HER WAY—to my alley cans–to toss the bagged poop. At first I thought, well, at least it is picked up and bagged and now tossed away. But, this is not a single occurrence, this is daily now–sometimes multiple times in a day. While I know tihs can is in the alley, this is my garbage can for putting my garbage in. I have to go throw my trash in there–I get the nice whiff of dog poop and on those hot days—it can be brutal. Also, the garbage gets picked up once a week…so this stuff sits there for awhile. I have young kids that I am also teaching to toss out the garbage and they can’t stand the horrible smell. This neighbor lives across the street…her cans aren’t far away. So, this does annoy me. I put a sign in the lid recently, I think it helped…but there’s still poop in there.
