Throwing Down

  • I got a PC game where if you shoot or hit a guy who’s supposed to help you, he will (sometimes) say “Now don’t make me go and throw down, or somethin’.” - Has anyone ever heard this expression IRL? - MC

Probably means “throw down the guantlet”; i.e. challenges you to a fight. It’s an old phrase from the days of yore (before 1975).

HPD in the past occasionally carried “throw down” guns which were used to justify shooting somebody, if no other goodies showed up at the crime scene.

I’ve heard it used to mean draw your weapon. Specifically in the movie Tombstone Wyatt Earp says it to the guy in the bar before he kicks him out, “I said throw down, boy.”
