Thundersnow

While not super rare, lighning/thunder associated with snow is not common.
But it was happening this evening. We are likely to get significant preciptation.

I’d say there is at least 3 inches already, and still coming down very hard.

There is a nonzero chance of power outages from the ice.

I wisely did grocery shopping today – I am planning on hunkering down.

I went bicycling in the 50F air on wednesday…

Good luck.

Tennessee’s periodic Ice Storms coat everything with a thick layer of ice, & we lose power…& trees.

11 inches at the airport (about 3 miles from me), 12 at the NWS

2-4 today, plus 4 to 8 tonight plus 1-3 sunday.

“chance of precipitation 100%”

I’m close to the Twin Cities and we didn’t even get an inch of snow last night. My SO went to the grocery store for ice cream at about 8PM last night and he said it was packed full of people buying panic supplies, and the clerk said she’d never seen it busier.

I’m curious to see if we’ll get any more snow up here. 12-16 inches is predicted.

We had lightning and thunder the night before the Blizzard of 1978 hit. I STILL remember vividly being trapped at home with no electricity in Ohio for four days after falling asleep to sounds of thunder and snow. I don’t envy you guys.

It’s heading this way! They just issued a blizzard warning for us and said there was a significant chance of thundersnow this evening.

My wife is up north at Becoming an Outdoorswoman camp, I hope the weather is nicer there!

I’ve got the block heater plugged in on my plow truck, I have the feeling I’m going to need it.

We had thunderstorms last night too (north central Iowa) but no snow. Aren’t February t-storms kinda rare? 30 degrees and lightning though – very cool.

We also had pea-size hail – first time I’ve seen it so thick on the ground, and it stuck around.

We’re having ice now – I can’t see out the windows on the south and west sides of the house. Snow later, maybe.

And it’s very windy. Lots of small branches on the ground.

Just starting to snow here - North of the twin cities. I miss snow so badly this year - we’ll take any you’ll let go of!

Check out the kind of stuff we get here around the 55th, parallel!

I measured 10" in the driveway - about 26" at theend of the driveway. Nieghbors took pity on me and snowblowed most of the gift from the city  .Still have to do the other half of the driveway, but now I could get out if I needed to.

Three days ago I was thinks how in this 50 F weather it would be nice to get a thunderstorm to clean everything off. In a salt state everything gets covered so I await the first heavy rain. We got twelve inches here last night.

I haven’t been in a thunder snow storm in about 20 years. Enjoy it if you can and take a short video, so the people won’t think your full of shit.

6 inches of very wet snow last night and more coming down (only about 2 at the moment)

The 6 inches of very wet snow was harder to remove than the 10 inches of moderately wet snow.

The way the weatherdrones were hyping this storm, it was going to be the Cataclysmic Armageddon of the Mother of All Blizzards.

Hmph. About 6 inches here. Didn’t even cover the tall grass.

That’s fine with me.

It’s been a bitch in central Wisconsin. It’s been a nasty one a person remembers for a few years.

It’s over for now. We lost power for a few hours today, but it wasn’t a problem for us. Well, except for my husband, who bores easily. I told him he could help with my quilt, but he declined.

Weatherman says we got 10 inches. The dog loves it. Neighbors called and said they’ll be over with a payloader to help us clear the branches. We have nice neighbors.
