Tick Protection Home Remedies: Any Truth to Them?

So I’m about to go outdoors this weekend and I get pretty paranoid about ticks. I think it’s that whole Lyme disease thing (and yes, I’ve read all about it and I know I’m not at risk much at all).

But I’ve heard from various people that these tricks work to prevent from ever getting ticks on you:

  1. Eat lots of garlic
  2. Drink vinegar
  3. Drink mineral water
  4. Take heavily mineral fortified vitamins
  5. Bathe in paint and let dry

Yes, the last one was a joke. (And lame at that.)
Any truth to these?
Or just a bunch of old husband’s tales?
