What are you spraying and what warnings does it have?
I had also heard that ticks could (and will, if undetected) burrow into the skin, but my wife disagrees. I just checked out the wikipedia tick page, but that had no info on burrowing. Can anyone point me to a reputable cite about whether ticks burrow or not, or if only certain species do, or what? Thanks in advance!
PS. Just to join the spirit of the thread - ticks suck!
I’m here to tell you: they burrow. She didn’t notice it for a day and then her leg started to really hurt, like a bad bruise. Upon closer inspection: freaky nasty tick. Just a bunch of wiggly little legs sticking out - GAAAAHHHHH!!!
I’m convinced That Mosquitoes and Ticks Hate me in a special way. Chiggers get Third place.
If I owned a flamethrower there would be a world of hurt.
I believe you have it wrong. They LOVE you. YOU, on the other hand, Hate them with a deep and unending hate. Bloodsuckers just seem to zero in on certain people, apparently we smell extra tasty.
I think that I will start carrying around those miniflamethrowers they use for lighting candles and fireplaces in the summer, just so I can express my hate for all bloodsuckers adequately.
I’ve seen many tick bites, but never one that burrowed. I can’t find any links that say our native hard shelled ticks burrow. What kind was it, and where was she?
Thanks,
CP
Oh, well, there go my plans to market a cute & cuddly “Mr. Tick” doll.
Well it was a bit worse for wear once it was dug out, so I didn’t get a good look. But the ER doc said it was a tick, too. We’re in San Diego - we were hiking in a mountain area. I’d definitely heard of it happening but had never seen it (thank goddess) til now. I certainly hope I don’t see it again.
What does it feel like when they bite? My dog kept getting them for a while but he’s Frontlined now - but none of them ever got on me.
You can always try using one of the big guns, like permethrin, but it’s essentially just wicked nasty poison and needs to be used with much care, especially around waterways since it will kill everything it touches.
Unfortunately, nothing. At least, I’ve never noticed the bite. No, I’ve only had the joy of suddenly catching sight of it somewhere on me and doing the get it off getitoff GETITOFF thing.
They don’t like much of anything when they bite, but when you remove them the place will itch like made (or at least does in my case). I removed one from my knee yesterday and have itched there all day.
I’ve also removed them from a very tender spot in my groin and that is an itch like you wouldn’t believe.
TICKS!!! EEEGGGGGAAAAAAA!!! GETTTEMOFFF GETTTTEEEEMMMOOFFFFFFF!!!
EEEEGAARRRRGHGHAHAHHAA
YYYYIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
I’ll be in the corner cowering in fear.
I don’t want to be tasty any more Lynn Leave me alone nasty bloodsucking creatures!
Where are the bats when you need them?
Say what?
Fresh ticks, straight from the garden:
Missouri ticks vant to drink your blood and a couple more, one belly up
Bats, you know, the kind of mammal who feeds off the insects and pests mentioned in this thread.
I guess I could have been more clear.
I can just see your gyrations in my mind’s eye…roflmao!!! I hate 'em too!
Tick one, found on my hat, flicked off back to the woods.
Tick two, bit my forearm, I felt it and yelled. Scared mrsin as he was merging onto the highway. Flicked out the window.
Tick three, on the side of my knee. mrsin tried to extract it with a knife and a box-cutter. Why yes, wine was involved. Extraction failed.
Tick four, on my side. Didn’t let mrsin try the knife and boxcutter removal technique. Why yes, I do learn from my mistakes.
Four ticks one day. Bastards. Hope I don’t get the Lyme.
