Well, since McGwire’s homers AVERAGE over 410 feet, and a golf-ball is designed for traveling long distances, methinks if McGwire got a hold of a pitched golf ball with just a REGULAR bat, it would travel to Timbuktu!
I don’t have any real scientific basis on the problem, but I agree with Satan. The only problem with that is hitting the golf ball exactly right. It would also have to be pitched right. However, if he did get a hold of it, we might have the dawn of a new sport…
Mark McGwire could undoubtedly hit it further with a titanium (or aluminum) bat, and that’s probably why they’re not allowed in the major leagues. There would be too many wounded third basemen and dead pitchers.
Tiger Woods can hit a golf ball 350 yards which is 1050 feet. If McGwire hit a golf ball at rest with a titanium bat, it wouldn’t go nearly 1050 feet. If he hit a pitched golf ball at 90 mph, it would definately go more than 1050 feet. There was this thing McGwire did where he went to this facility where he would swing a golf club as fast as he could. The machine would tell you how fast the golf ball was traveling off the tee. Tiger Woods hit about 180 mph. McGwire went well into the 200s. That’s how strong he is.
