Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas - why not a stage musical?

Completely out of season, but I watched this film again the other night and every time I do, I can’t help thinking it would make a good stage musical - it’s probably mostly because of the style of the songs - they are already very show-tune-ish.

So, could it be done? Effects would be tricky, casting would have to be right (don’t let Tim Burton do the casting - Johnny Depp and HBC could not carry these roles), but could it be done? Would it be worth seeing in that format anyway, or does it need the impossible things that are only possible in animation?

Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Shrek…

Give it time. Broadway will be a theme park soon enough.

It could be a show like Grinch, which only runs in the Holiday season. They could run from October 1st through Jan.

I don’t know why it hasn’t been done already. They could give it to Julie Taymor. She did amazing things for The Lion King.

I’ve been dreaming of producing it for years, but since I produce in an 80-seat black box and have a budget of about $5k per show, I haven’t quite been able to pull it off

Someday, though…
