Tim Dorsey novels. Read in order?

I recently read his first book, Florida Road Kill and enjoyed it so I thought I’d read another. The library has his most recent book available but I understand the same characters appear in all his books. Does one pick up where the last one left off? Should I read them in order or can I skip around?

I haven’t been reading them in order, and don’t think I really needed to. There are allusions to and comments about happenings in earlier books, but they’re not critical to the current one.

I’ve read them all. The only one that is a prequel to the rest is “Triggerfish Twist.” You can safely read them out of order. Some of the books refer to things that happen in previous books, but none are dependent on them. The only thing is that you might get a bit confused when certain characters turn up that you’re supposed to know from previous books. And there is a character named Mahoney who does go through a rather dramatic change as the novels progress.

If Mahoney or a missing briefcase with $6 million in it means anything to you, read them in order. Otherwise it isn’t necessary. There are little bits that make more sense if you go sequentially, but they are minor. Although the first several are better in order. If I were you, I’d find Hammerhead Ranch Motel before I read the most recent.

Upon thinking about it, I’d recommend the following order:

**Florida Road Kill
Hammerhead Ranch Motel
Stingray Shuffle
Orange Crush
Triggerfish Twist **(this one can be read anywhere in the first 5)(it’s a prequel to everything)

After that you can bounce around at will, with the previous advice about minor characters and development.

Thanks for the input. I’ll try to read them in order but won’t worry about missing anything if I can’t find them at the library.

I’ve read almost all of them, out of order. I started with** Atomic Lobster**, and even though it spoilered a bunch of stuff from Triggerfish Twist, it’s still my favorite.
