Time for a new party?

Since George W. was running the shop we have had a 2 party system - Correct?

But they were not the dems and pubs, IIRC they were wigs and something-or-other. How did this change, and could we be looking at the beginning of the end of the Democratic party and a possiable replacment party?

Most changes in the past happened when one major party split into two, then one half eventually died off while the other lived on. However, the institutional setup now makes it much harder for new parties to get off the ground than in the past.
