I’m 24 weeks along now … feeling the baby move a ton!!! Go for my glucose screening test in a couple of weeks … hoping all will go well.
I’ve gained about 15 pounds so far - the doctor has given me hell for it - he only wants me to gain 20 in total … obviously I’ve blown THAT goal out of the water!
What a cutie. Gotta love those big brown eyes I find it amazing that they make Aloha shirts and dresses for babies that small, though. Makes me wonder if my friend from your neck of the woods has baby pics of herself dressed like that, heh.
I’m 33 weeks 4 days. Having problems controlling my blood sugar despite diet (I’ve succeeded in losing weight but that was not the desired effect, apparently). Will find out tomorrow if we’re proceeding with insulin.
I’ve never been so uncomfortable in my life. My hips hurt so much I can barely lift my feet off the floor. I would love a few hours of uninterrupted sleep, but that’s not happening. I waddle like a wounded duck.
I am apparently high risk now because of the gestational diabetes. I will now have weekly ultrasounds to check amniotic fluid levels and activity. I had my first profile ultrasound last week. I still don’t know the gender, although I will be annoying the technician tomorrow in hopes that she’ll spill the beans. For the record, I’m saying it’s a boy.
Everything is very much up in the air right now. I won’t have the specific ultrasound to estimate size until 38 weeks, and that will determine how and when this baby arrives. Either induction or c-section is likely.
Despite how I feel, everything looks okay the baby for now. There’s enough amniotic fluid, the baby is active, good heart rate, etc. “He” is in a transverse lie (somewhat sideways) but it’s still not to late for “him” to turn around.
Hi Hubzilla - what an adorable honeybun of a daughter, and what a beautiful name you’ve given her.
**Cyros ** - sorry about the GD - hope you don’t have to go the insulin route. A friend of mine is due October 12 and she has been diagnosed with GD as well.
Pardon the question, but what is a profile ultrasound?
I’ve had two ultrasonds - one at 12 weeks and one at 18 weeks. We have another scheduled at the end of September - I think that’s around 32 weeks - to check for a couple of hereditary things that run in our families.
I’m a little scared of the glucose test but I’m trying to stay positive. I haven’t gained a LOT of weight and I think my belly etc is about the right size for the gestational age but I guess we’ll see.
I’ve found yoga and swimming to be helpful - when I can find the energy - my only symptom of pregnancy (besides the belly and the boobs) has been a lot of bone-deep exhaustion … I am tired ALL of the time!!!
kittenlm is doing very well. She’s 23 weeks, 3 days and the little Turkey is kicking and punching her constantly. The fatigue stage came and went, but seems to be coming back again. But, at least the nausea is a thing of the past.
The nursery is coming along nicely…I went a weekend painting it a nice babyish yellow and green motif (we’re not finding out the sex, so no pink or blue).
The latest belly pictures (taken all of three minutes ago) are here, the newest Ultrasound pics are here, and the Official SDMB Briston Baby Pool is here.
Insulin wouldn’t bother me. It’s obvious to me (and the dietician) that strict restrictions are having no effect on my glucose levels. Although I knew that might possibly happen, I still get annoyed with myself every time my readings are too high.
Because of my circumstances, I started having “profiles” done at 32 weeks and will have one every week until I deliver. In addition to gestational diabetes, some women will have them because of pre-eclampsia, measuring incorrectly, complications in a prior pregnancy or other risk factors.
It consists of two main parts - an ultrasound and monitoring. The ultrasound measures amniotic fluid, checks for “fetal breathing movements”, muscle tone and activity. After the ultrasound, I’m hooked up to the monitor to check for contractions and monitor the baby’s heartrate and movements. They are checking for a consistent baseline heartrate with accelerations every time the baby moves. After that’s done, they write a report for my doctor, assigning a score out of ten.
The purpose is basically to see if conditions are still favourable inside the womb.
Don’t expect to see much at the 32 week ultrasound. In my case the 19 week scan was perfectly clear and obvious, but now that the baby is in quite cramped quarters, I can barely make out anything.
Don’t worry. Apparently, only 4 - 8% of women get gestational diabetes. Have you been given any instructions re: fasting prior to the test? I know in my area they say fasting isn’t necessary, but the majority of people who fail the one hour and go on to pass the three hour probably failed the initial test because of what they ate in the 8 or so hours prior. If you have to eat, try to avoid carbs. I’m sure you’ll do fine!
Cyros , I’m so sorry about the gestational diabetes (hug)…I am also at 33 weeks and feeling extremely uncomfortable. The baby has been resting on my sciatic nerve for about 2 months now. The pain literally makes me see stars (yes, just like in the cartoons!) - not fun. I haven’t seen my ankles in weeks. My skin is so swollen that it feels like it will surely split. I can’t sleep for more than 2 hours at a time. I have to say, I’m going to be very happy when this is all over. I don’t know how women do this more than once!! How does the human race not die out?? Ha, well, I could go on, but I’ll shut up now…I am looking forward to having a little boy though. All seems to be well with him according to the ultrasounds I’ve had, so that is GOOD.
Awww Hubzilla , so, so, so cute!
Stainz , I’m glad you’re doing so well. Don’t worry about the weight. Most women gain a little more than they should the first time around. What’s important is that you and the little lima bean are doing fine
Hal , you’ve inspired me to have some pictures taken of my big belly. I guess I’ve just been too cranky lately…I know I’ll regret not doing it though! The only problem is, will I remember to buy film?? My brain has turned to pudding lately. I don’t seem to be able to retain anything for very long :smack:
Cyros, sorry to hear you’re having trouble with the GD. My one-hour test came back abnormal, so I’ve been given a super-sugary diet to follow for three days starting Friday, then go in Monday morning for the 3-hour test. Should be fun.
I just saw the OB today. 27 weeks now, and I start seeing the OB every two weeks after this; I’m also seeing a perinatologist, so there will be lots of time spent at the doctors’ in the near future. The boys are still doing great; the last ultrasound showed no problems and they’re growing normally, about 2 lb each as of two weeks ago. They’re getting more active all the time…I just wish the one down low would quit kicking me in the bladder. OW. My belly is getting big enough that turning over in bed is quite the production, and I can’t lie on my back for more than a minute or so without it getting really uncomfortable. Various TMI discomforts I won’t go into here, but I’m sure y’all can guess. Doing fine otherwise.
Geobabe and Shana, glad to hear everything seems normal (even if we are all full of aches and pains and assorted discomforts!)
Geobabe, have some snacks and water on hand to have right after the three hour test. It makes a lot of people kind of nauseated. I’m sure you’ll do fine!
Had another ultrasound today. Everything apparently looks good, but for the second week in a row I got the middle-aged trainee technician who won’t hazard a guess as to sex. In addition, she bombarded me with questions about my glucose control and made me feel like I was under attack. I really didn’t need to be interrogated, especially by someone who has no expertise in that area. As soon as she left the room, I started to cry. Don’t pick on the preggo, lady.
After my OB looked at my numbers this week and explained that the further into pregnancy I get, the less control I can expect to have, and that I was doing everything I could, I felt much better. I have been referred to an endocrinologist now for insulin. Frankly, I’m relieved - I was really beating myself up over my readings.
Baby will likely be making an early arrival. I will either be induced around 38 weeks or have a cesarean a bit closer to 40 weeks. I shall find out my fate after my 38 week scan with size estimate.
Babyrian is 3 and a half months old. She’s deliciously cute and specializes in swallowing her entire hand. I only have one question: When does the puking stop?
Yep. I’m only 4 weeks and 5 days. It’s even too early for morning sickness. I feel pretty normal except for my swollen, sore boobs and some achy pulling sensations (not cramps) in my lower abdomen. I think the latter was one of the clues. The sore boobs I get before my period, but I normally have severe cramps and this time it was totally different. You can set your watch to my cycle, so when I was three days late, I thought: :dubious:
Last night, I was in bed an hour and a half earlier than usual and slept like the dead. I also noticed the last two days I’ve been tired in the afternoon, which never happens. Now I know why.
Sleepy is pretty common at this stage, I think. Try not to push yourself and rest as much as you can. I have my fingers crossed that you will escape morning sickness!
Oh yeah. The first trimester especially, soooooooo tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired. Making a placenta is hard work! Don’t feel like you have to be Superwoman, just get your rest.
I’m still tired now, but that’s more because these two little rascals never let me get a full night’s sleep! But I guess I should just get used to it, since I’m surely not going to get any sleep after they arrive.
