Tomato, SuperSauce Hybrid and Sweet Corn - On Deck Hybrid. I’m in planting zone 10A. And you?
My rhubarb patch (which was here when I bought the place) is again coming up this year. I’m going to leave well enough alone.
Got started too late last year, this time I think we’re hitting it right on the head. Planting tomorrow!
Here is my garden plan. Super spiffly little program! I was surprised how much I could fit in to that space. I chose what I think will be less complicated veggies.
We’re still trying to decide. We have to plant them in pots so we’re pretty limited. One pot will be for herbs - chives are a definite - not sure what else in that pot. A second pot will most likely be tomatoes - we did regular last year and cherry tomoatoes - no cherry tomatoes this year. Probably just the regular. Another pot might be green peppers or some other pepper - I have to see what plants they have at Home Depot - that’s when everything really gets decided.
I’m going to check out this site!
I have so far I have only planted green beans and butternut squash. I still have strawberries (divided and transplanted from last year’s poor location) and lettuce (no frost this year so lettuce is still growing from fall planting). Planning to put in tomatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers, and other greens.
We have terrible soil so my garden is raised beds and pots.
This is a nice program. Thanks!
I too only have pots, but have put in two Early Girl tomatoes, which are already enormous and have their first fruits. I just noticed some volunteer tomatoes from last year’s cherry plant, which I suppose I’ll allow to live - they might be nice. I can’t remember what variety of cherry tomato it was, or even if it was heirloom or hybrid, so who knows.
I also started some red potato slips from a sprouting spud in the kitchen, which are also enormous. I have a sweet potato attempting to root in a jar of water - it has a handful of narrow white roots, but so far no leaves. It’s a waiting game.
And, one more veggie, I put some banana pepper seeds in a pot. Not germinated yet, but we’ll see.
My dear little fruit trees are doing well too, the peach tree is covered in fuzzy green marbles, and the pomegranate has some big red buds, the flowers are so pretty, I’d almost grow the tree if it didn’t fruit The lime tree is looking good too, lots of flowers, and the new growth looks healthy - last years’ leaves had some aphid damage and look quite yuck, but seem to be working OK. All the fruit trees have various leafy green veg underneath, from a mixed seed packet, which are useful and delicious if I just need a handful of lettuce substitute for a sandwich or something. They’re all bolting, but maybe they’ll self-seed? I will put some more seed out too.
We planted a couple of weeks ago. We’re doing the Heinz Super Paste tomatoes and Celebrity (2 plants each), Roma II bush beans, Sumter cucumbers, Sugar baby watermelons, Ambrosia cantaloupes and Louisiana Green Velvet okra, along with some herbs (basil, parsley and dill)
I live in the Keys so our growing season is in the wintertime. We are limited in what we can grow due to the endangered Key Deer so we usually just grow some tomatoes in pots. They did OK but our neighbor who has a fenced yard shares his wonderful bounty with us. He grows mostly tomatoes and some green onions and green beans.
This year he had chocolate cherry tomatoes that were so good. Thank goodness for good neighbors.
I grew that hybrid corn in a planter last year and it did really well. Got some lovely ears from it. I’m planning on putting out some more this year. I have chives that self seed and usually put out a some green onions as well. Don’t know if I’ll do tomatoes or not.
Thank you for the picture. I am encouraged.
Having just put in raised beds I bought seeds from Burpee this year. Anyone else buying their seeds and other gardening needs from Burpee? Your experience appreciated.
Planting this thread in Cafe Society, from MPSIMS.
I’d get some citrus! I figure it has to do well there, since it doesn’t freeze and isn’t particularly hot, and because there’s a variety of lime named after the area.
Freshest corn I’ve ever eaten and it tasted delicious.
Our strawberry plants are up and blueberry bushes have leaves. I expect to do something minimal this year compared to last, maybe tomatoes, beans, and squash.
I live in zone 5a/5b, in an apartment so it’s containers only for me. I’ve planted radishes, carrots, and shallots in the same pot (so far, only the shallots have sprouted) and started tomato plants in February, for me to sell when the weather gets just a bit warmer. Earlier today, I transferred some of the bigger plants from yogurt cups to fast food soft drink cups I saved for this exactly purpose. I have cherry, paste, and slicing tomatoes, all heirloom varieties.
In a few days, I’ll plant my potatoes. I found some greenish ones on clearance at the grocery store down the road, so I left them outside to sprout and get even greener in preparation for planting. You’d be surprised how many you can get from a pot.
We’re planting our first crop of blueberrys in raised beds. This is all I know about growing blueberrys. Can you provide any tips, especially about soil, feeding, offerings to The Gods? Oh, and what about birds? Do you cover your bushes?
How big of a pot for your tatters and what kind of tatters?
I just started my seeds in a Burpee seed starter kit. I have 12 pods each of peas, beets, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, zucchini, and carrots. With any luck some of them will actually sprout. With even more luck spring might actually show up before Halloween and I’ll be able to plant them outside without fear of more snow. Right now they’re in front of the only window in my house that actually gets direct sunlight.
