Time to plant the veggies. I'm trying these for the first time. What about you?

I’m trying three new tomato varieties this year, as well as a few I’ve tried before- ‘Gardener’s Delight’, a Russian variety (or so it was described to me) ‘Black Icicle’, and something glorying in the name ‘Dancing With Smurfs’.

I’m also trying some new squash, melon (I have tried before, but it’s been too cold- this year I have access to a small greenhouse) and a few unusual edibles; oca, strawberry spinach, magentaspreen, electric daisies and achocha.

I’m in England, no idea where that works out equivalent on the zone system.

The garden is IN, and hopefully this year it stays in. Chicken wire all around and netting over the top. Should start seeing shoots poke up this weekend or shortly thereafter.

Particularly looking forward to the radises, for some reason.

Russets, in a 5-gallon bucket with holes drilled in the bottom. Got the bucket for 25 cents at the Habitat ReStore.

I have some sprouts!!! It’s only 4 pods of peas and 2 pods of beets but it’s still sprouts!!!

Pretty green lines of radish and lettuce yesterday, with a couple beans peeking out. After rain all day yesterday and sun all day today and tomorrow, should be looking good this weekend.

I’m growing sweet tates for the 1st time, they’ve been sitting in the window by the bathtub sprouting and sprouting, the slips ought to be ready in another week or two. It’s great to lay back in a tub of hottest water sipping a margarita and watching your garden grow!

My Early Girls have golf-ball size green fruit. I can’t wait!

My sweet potato is on the mantelpiece, it has roots but no leaves. Grr.

Oh, and my lemon cucumbers are up and growing. Something nipped the cotyledons off a few. Squirrel, maybe. Bloody dogs not doing their job!
