Time's Person of the Year

Here’s the thread in case you don’t want to go hunting for it http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=813264

You ever read the [url=Adolf Hitler: Man of the Year, 1938 | TIME]article

(illustrated with a wheel of corpses). It’s certainly not praising. As they have to reiterate over and over and over again. Good article, and the last line “To those who watched the closing events of the year it seemed more than probable that the Man of 1938 may make 1939 a year to be remembered.” - weren’t wrong about that.

I do have a question - I’ve seen both the Hitler-cover image and the Saint Catherine’s wheel of corpses for the issue. Does anyone know which was actually used at the time? From the date of the link (1936 in URL), it seems like this is an earlier cover, and the man of the year cover issue (1938) had a wheel of corpses. Though that might explain why I’ve heard some say Hitler was man of the year in 1936. Can anyone confirm I’ve got it straight?

Trump complains he’s not Time’s MAN of the Year.

What a f***ing basketcase of deplorables.

I’m wondering what was going through Trump’s mind in that video. Was he just mouthing off his internal dialogue or did he have some point to make? It’s almost like he’s toying with the crowd just to see how outrageous he can be and get away with with, just for shits and giggles.

Actually, he kind of reminds me of Borat. He’s the performance artist who deliberately tries to be obscene and transgress all social norms to see how far people will go along with him, with the aim being to shed light on, or reflect, their prejudices. Like when Borat, portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen who is Jewish, sang the song, that he’d composed, called “Throw the Jew Down the Well” in a redneck bar and got them all to sing along. Trump is like this, except for real.

In less than six weeks, the man will be POTUS. Is he ever going to drop the act?

It’s not an act.
