Tinted car windows really creep me out

Is it just me?

I can’t really put my finger on it though, besides that I can’t see who’s in the car.

People who are not cops and feel the need to see into my car creep me out.

I find them annoying for a practical reason: you can’t see what gestures the driver is making. I rarely drive, but I’m a frequent pedestrian. And this is what always seems to happen. I’m at the kerb, waiting for a car to pass. It slows down - possibly to allow me to cross? But of course the windows are tinted, so if the driver is gesturing, I can’t see it. Result: stand-off while we each wait for the other.

Well, unless the driver is totally insane, the windshield is not tinted… Only the side windows. So why can’t you see him from the curb (kerb)?

I hate when people have their rear windows darkly tinted. One of the ways I tend to measure traffic and keep a truly safe distance from the car in front of me is by also keeping an eye on what the car in front of them is doing (this is particularly true when I’m on the freeway). I hate when I can’t see through to the car in front of the car in front of me because of tinted windows. That’s also why I don’t like being behind large trucks or lifted vehicles.

It’s just an added level of safety I like to have.

I had my SUV windows tinted before I left on a 3-month, coast-to-coast roadtrip. Apart from keeping the interior cooler, the tint kept curious passers-by from seeing all of the gear that filled up the back of the vehicle. Well worth the expense, I’d say–and I’m sorry if I creeped anyone out.

When the pervert in the lane next to me sticks his tongue out and waggles it around while his passenger is laughing, it’s nice to be able to block them out.

The windscreen is tinted too. The driver can see out. I just can’t see in.

Tinting the front windshield is not legal in any state. (only a few inches of space on the visor is allowed, and the number of inches varies by state. Cite)

Cuncator is in Australia.

hmmm doesn’t bother me much, but I can see where it could. It’s like a two-way mirror. You don’t know who’s looking at you or if they’re sitting in their car making fun of you.

Thay are, you know. They all are.

I have found that dark tinted windows help prevent tailgating by preventing the tailgater from seeing the road ahead, sometimes to the point of frustration and them leaving the lane.

I have also found that dark tinted windows cut down on the amount of light shining inside from drivers behind me, which that light is extremely annoying and distraction if it’s from a HID headlight.

This and it hides what is inside the car/suv and helps keep it cooler, and I will always have tinted windows from this point on.

I do find it ironic that SUV’s, which already block the view of drivers behind and are higher and less subject to distracting HID lights can have factory installed tinted windows and cars can not.

I think tinted windows are creepy; someone inside the car could be exposing themself and I wouldn’t be any the wiser! Also, they could even be driving around naked underneath their clothes.

I find it a bit disconcerting too- maybe it stems from seeing the movie Duel as a kid?

A lot of people I know do post factory tinting solely for the look.

Expensive cars have tinted windows often, and limos do too. Rich people tint.

My friend bought a used Alero this year. That car’s tint is so dark on the back you can’t see anything that isn’t brightly lit up at night through it.

My used Protege 5 came with tinted windows. It looks nice and slick with the all black car and dark tinted windows, I really like the look. I second whoever said up there that they are useful against SUV’s and trucks with their bright headlights that are sitting at eye level for me. The only thing worse than a lifted truck with bright headlights is a lifted truck with HiD headlights. Ye gods thats bright!

Oh, and the previous owner ripped the top right corner of the rear window tint to shreds, but because of the heating matrix it would be way too expensive to fix it. So now it just looks like a bear tore up the rear tinting.

Come on, when has merely being in another country stopped us from enforcing our laws/values on anyone else?
Seriously though, I would be surprised if Australia allowed the front window to be tinted either. A quick search isn’t turning up anything useful - anyone have the Dope?
