Tiny fans

I just want to know at least one of two things.

  1. Are their fans that are made, that can be plugged in, that are around the size of a computer case fan? And if so, what are their names. I’ve seen none at the stores, and can’t seem to find any on eBay.
  2. Speaking of computer case fans, does any sort of AC adapter exist that lets you plug a three pronged computer fan into an outlet? (US style outlet of course)
    Thanks.

Computer case fans are 12 VDC. To plug one into a 120 VAC outlet, you’ll need a 12 VDC power supply. These are generally available at Radio Shack, but I buy them at a surplus electronics store for considerably less. It only takes 2 wires to hook up the fan and polarity is important. The third wire on most PC case fans is an rpm signal back to the processor and isn’t needed for simple operation.

For a PC case sized fan that is already set up for 120 VAC, they are rare. Once again, a surplus electronics place might have some. I generally hear these refered to as Boxer fans, although that may be a brand name.

Good luck.

Thank you, I appreciate the info.

If you need a fan that runs directly off 120VAC power, those are pretty common too. Just look in any electronics parts catalog, e.g. digikey.
