Tip WalMArt delivery folks? Yes or No?

Awaiting my first locally delivered WalMart delivery and I don’t know if I need to tip.

A google search seems to indicate that tips are not allowed, and I’m OK with that. But on the other hand it’s a local store and I don’t want to be followed by cat calls the next time I go in there.

I do. I feel I must. I ask for an extra – I can’t walk very well, so I have to ask them to bring the groceries up two flights.

That’s a good point, but in my case they’re just going to set it on the porch. About 5 feet from their car.

When I get Walmart delivery it’s part of the checkout on the app. They ask how much you want to tip. So, unless it differs by location, it’s allowed.

If they’re not allowed, they can turn it down when you offer. But I would definitely offer.

Well, my one item was delivered. Fellow handed it to me and went back to his car. I wished him a good evening.

I did not notice anything on the app mentioning a tip. I do see an amount for sales tax though.

When I used the app, there was not only a place for a tip, but it was automatically selected unless you changed it.

I did sign up for Wal Mart Plus. Maybe that makes a difference?

[nevermind]

I receive deliveries from Walmart, Amazon, Target, etc. and never tip because they never ring the bell when placing packages on the porch. Usually, the delivery people simply place the package on the porch, take a photo and leave. Concerned about potential theft, I installed a motion detecting sensor at the porch that signals a chime inside and that’s how I know a delivery has been made.

Initially, there was no tip function on the page, and when I tried to tip, they refused.

Then, there WAS a tip function. And for a while it was preset to some percentage or other. I tipped in cash, and they happily took it.

Now, the tip function is gone again, from the page. I continue to tip $5, in cash, at the door.

If I tipped every time I got a delivery from Amazon I’d have to come out of retirement and find a full-time job.

mmm

If you are getting groceries delivered, they practically force you to tip. If you don’t give them a tip, they’ll send you nag messages until you do. You might be able to respond to one of the nag messages to force them to accept a zero tip, I haven’t tried that.

They aren’t clear ahead of time about the tip being expected. Because of that, I gave them a tip and never had groceries delivered ever again. They might have changed things a bit since then. I haven’t checked.

If you want free delivery of your groceries, use their free pickup and have them bring it out to your car. You have to drive it all home though.

If you are ordering a product of some sort (i.e. not groceries) then that’s basically the same as an Amazon delivery. It’s not customary to tip for that type of delivery, at least not around here.

I did ask the driver if he was a Wal Mart employee and he said no. He works for a sub contractor. I suppose that’s a way to shift responsibility away from Wal Mart.

Thank you all for the responses.
