I recently went in to get my hair cut, and upon finishing (it took about 20 - 30 minutes, and was quite simple), was suprised to find out that tips were generally expected. Until now, my parents and I have gone to a hairdresser whom instead works for comissions (and the same one for about 12 years), so this was quite unexpected.
Does anyone know what percentage of the bill would be most appropriate as a tip in this situation? I tipped approximately 25%, but would like to know whether this was too little or what.
Thank you so much!
Where I go, the cost of the haircut if $11.95 and I usually just give them $15.
I’ve been going to the same girl for five years, through three employers, now she’s got her own place. She charges me $15, I give her $20.
I usually tip my hairdresser 20%. I will have been using her for a year come November or December…so I will also be tipping her something extra at Christmas. Probably an extra $15 or $20.
I try to tip 15-20 percent. However, if it comes down to tipping slightly less in cash (as I generally pay on my debit card) or tipping slightly more on the debit card, I tip the cash, figuring that, say, two bucks in cash is better than three bucks on the card.
I tip 15-20% – although if I find a truly great hairdresser, I tip more and often in order to encourage them to like me and keep giving me great cuts. So far it’s been quite effective.
My hairdresser owns her own salon so I don’t tip her. At that point, I think it’d be kinda silly.
