What if his last wish was to have his remains scattered over the wreck of the titanic?
Wish granted.
The sub was 1,600 meters short IIRC. Maybe the currents are going the right way.
Sometimes the ashes drift a bit like in “The Big Lebowski”.
LegalEagle’s take on the whole mess. Long story short: Ross cut a lot of corners( which we knew) and the families may not be able to sue.
I didn’t take that lesson from the video. They’ll be able to bring suit, absolutely.
The question is: will they WIN? That’s a definite maybe, due to untested laws, uncertain jurisdiction, and possible loopholes. But this situation will for sure see the inside of the courthouse.
You’re absolutely right. I misspoke.
While browsing other YouTube videos today on a completely unrelated subject, I came across a clip from a rather laudatory BBC program all about how OceanGate is opening up visits to the Titanic as routine tourism, albeit at high cost, complete with a little fluff piece from Stockton Rush himself. Some things don’t age well.
Was that the one that included footage of the problem with the thrusters (one was improperly mounted) that caused them to spin, which they solved by turning the controller around and using it backwards (or something like that)? I’ve read that this footage will almost certainly show up in any trials.
Yes. I didn’t see the actual program, but the clip included that bit.
MacGyvering is cool for contrived or trivial problems. MacGyvering a solution to impending implosion is … problematic … as the kids might say.
- OceanGate has taken down its social-media pages, and its website has gone dark.
- This comes a week after OceanGate said it would suspend “all exploration and commercial operations.”
- As of press time, only the OceanGate Foundation’s website remains active.
I didn’t read the article, but that seems like a Positive.
Man. One minute they’re all defiant, next thing you know, they cave under the pressure.
They knew they were in too deep.
And out of their depth.
It is difficult to completely erase something from the internet, if you look hard enough here and there you are sure to find bits and pieces. Just like their CEO.
serves him right!
He could have easily hired a COO and still be alive
but word on the company is that they were pretty under water already
Preliminary Transport Canada TSB Report:
No new information except perhaps:
The investigation team has taken possession of the vessel’s voyage data recorder, which has been sent to the TSB Engineering Laboratory in Ottawa for further analysis.
[I didn’t know it had this.]
What are the odds it turns out to be a cassette tape that was spun through the recorder by a hamster on a wheel? Poor little fella. It deserved better.
More seriously, they might only be referring to the support vessel. While that one sentence is a bit ambiguous, every other usage of the word “vessel” is clearly in reference to the support vessel (for example: the support vessel Polar Prince, the Canadian-flagged vessel Polar Prince, etc). While Titan itself seems to be referred to consistently throughout as a submersible, and never a “vessel” (for example: the submersible Titan). In which case, it might be as simple as whatever hard drive stores chat and/or position data. Which wouldn’t be too surprising. It common nowadays for ships to use electronic charts for navigation and such.
Reminds me of that thread about the pitfalls of nuance and whether “vessel” means “canoe” (turns out it does—but I could have told them that for half the price of a fancy Canadian lawyer).
