The 15-year old boy in me (who was talked into seeing it back then as “it’s got boobs and a sinking ship”) kinda wants to see it. But at close to $20 a ticket, it’s hard to justify.
I have my own 3D clip-on glasses. I’ll pay for something else as a matinee and duck into Titanic. not only do I rarely pay full price for films (matinees and discount theaters are my friends), I refuse to pay extra for 3D, even if it is one of the greatest movies ever.
I just hope some theater somewhere shows the non-3D version too. My husband loves the movie as much as I do, but he can’t see 3D. I’ll see it in 3D on my own, but I want to see it with him again too.
Let’s face facts here. Titanic is the best movie ever made and will likely ever be made. There is no need to beat around the bush on this one. I am unapologetic about the fact that I am 30 something male and have seen the movie well over 500 times. If there is nothing on TV, Titanic is always there to bail me out (no pun intended). I am not a big fan of 3-D movies but I have gotten this far and there is no way I will miss an enhanced version of it.
Shagnasty, I love you and WhyNot.
Where do you live?
So, it’s one of the greatest movies ever, and you’ve decided that you’ll reward all that talent and all that commitment to the art form by effectively stealing from the people who made the movie.
Nice!
Normally I wouldn’t go see it. Saw the original once and it was ok. But my company is a corporate partner for the film and I have a free ticket to a Sneak Preview screening tomorrow night at 7:30, and since it’ll be my first 3D movie as well as being free, I’m going. Since I currently have no friends who want to see movies with me, I will be forced to sit with coworkers I barely know, but I will do it in the interest of the Board and report back!
Just popping in to say that I feel so relieved that I’m not the only person who reacted to all of the Titanic hype the first time around by deciding to miss it completely. There was such a small chance of me seeing it anyway to begin with (I really don’t like Celine Dion, and thought that the world would have been a better place if Leo had keeled over dead at around age 14) but the overenthusiastic fanbase really put the final nail in for me.
Never saw it then, never saw it on DVD or on TV, don’t really like 3-D anyway now, so I don’t feel any big loss.
I don’t begrudge people who liked it and want to see it again, I just must have missed the boat.
They’ve gotten plenty of money from me. I saw it 5 times when it was first released, I bought the DVD, and I saw it in the theater again a couple of years ago. I just refuse to pay extra for 3D.
What was great about seeing it the first time was I managed to miss all the hype + hate. Obviously I knew about the disaster, and I had heard there was a love story, but I had no idea about the budget, length, actors and the high and low regard others have for the film. And the cinema I was in was almost empty.
I was blown away by it. I felt really shaken up as I left the cinema, but in a good way.
It wouldn’t be the same watching it again (well, the cinema might be almost empty :p).
I think it’s a fantastic movie, and I love the whole 3d phenomenon.
I’ll definitely see it.
I liked the movie, but probably not. I voted “maybe” because somebody might talk me into it, or maybe I’ll be really bored on a rainy day, but I kinda doubt it. Not a huge fan of movies shot in 2D and then rendered–is that the word?–into 3D.
I’ll see it. I love this film - saw it 5 times back in 1997-98. To this date it’s the only soundtrack (other than Beauty and the Beast) that I’ve ever purchased.
I cannot help but be curious why there is a Titanic musem in Tennesse.
Why not a Sultana museum?
This.
I will never understand why they didn’t focus on the real-life passengers instead of inventing characters. The real people were SO much more interesting (including Margaret “Molly” Brown–no filmmaker ever gets her right).
April Fool’s…? :dubious:
Liability lawsuits (they still got them) and potential risk of having to pay royalties for using “real stories” are likely reasons.
If only there were some way to redo the horrible horrible dialog in parts of the movie. That’s what makes me want to avoid it. and the horrible script is what keeps me from thinking of Titanic as any kind of great movie.
I’ll see it.
I want to find out what happened to Rose’s husband’s manservant (the guy who was guarding Jack).
He died when the ship split from underneath him. Prior to that, he and Jack had a fight, but that scene was cut from the final edit.
