Titans kicker admits he took a dive on the kick he missed

What a crock of shit…of course we all knew he flopped anyway…

boy the NFL is starting to look like the WWF(E) this year

“I think I should go into acting” , or words to that effect.

So? I’m not a fan of the Titans, but having a kicker able to convince the ref that a roughing call has been made is a very valuable asset indeed, and I wished more NFL coaches would give their kickers acting lessons.

Are you denying that Washington ran into him? It’s obvious he did. I don’t think there is a rule that determines how hard you hit the kicker, just that you did.

actually, incidental contact is very rarely called on punts or FGs…if you malicously run into the kicker, its roughing…if you bop him hard enough to knock him down, its running into…if it’s a little bump or light contact, its not called.

So, you read an article about how the CB (or is Washington a Safety) for the Steelers blew two coverages and had a roughing the kicker penalty on three consecutive plays, and you’re mad at the Titan’s kicker?

From the article linked in the OP:

3 straight plays!!!

Washington may have ran into him, but it was well after the kick was off and the kicker was in his follow-through. Moreover, Washington only ran into him because he was tripped (by a Titan) and fell! It wasn’t a tackle, he was rolling!

That was the crappiest call I can recall in recent history.

Actually, judging from the article it might not have been three straight plays… but still, 3 blown OT plays in the playoffs is NOT what they pay 6, 7-figure salaries for.

Doesn’t matter whether he’s in the follow through or not, or if he was rolling. You cannot run into a kicker unless you’ve touched the ball. Sorry, but that’s the rule.

Of course, Pittsburgh shouldn’t let themselves get in the situation. Maybe our kicker caused the bad pass defense as well.

And add to this also, that the NFL will pretty much remain a joke in my opinion until they come up with a fairer way to do overtimes (like college football hint, hint). I’m getting really, really sick of investing 3.5 hours in watching a close game, only to have the game more or less decided by who wins the overtime coin toss. I mean, most of the time, the team losing the coin toss doesn’t even get to TOUCH the ball in overtime. This is retarded!

The whole purpose of the “Roughing The Kicker” penalty is to protect the kicker from being hit while he’s in the follow-through. Run into him at all without touching the ball first, and it’s supposed to be a penalty.

Maybe I saw a different game, but it was a hell of a lot closer call than you seem to think. And crappiest call in “recent history”? You can’t even remember back one fucking week, to a call that the fucking NFL commissioner apologized for? Tis to laugh.

Well…the call the commisioner apologized for was actually a non call. The didn’t call the pass interference. And they should have.

Actually, they did flag the interference, but they picked it up when they decided that the guy was ineligible.

I still don’t understand how it could have been pass interference last week.

The Giants sent illegal receivers down the field. This confused the defense, because they no longer knew who was a legal receiver. How is this offsetting penalties? One team was wrong first and caused the other penalty.

This is basically the same as a false start vs. offsides. When a false start happens and someone on the defense jumps because of it, is it offsetting penalties and you repeat the down?

If you are allowed to get away with offsetting penalties for what the Giants did, then why not just send all your players down the field. Why not just send the cheerleaders down the field to catch a pass. Then you can secretly have a legitimate receiver in the midst of a mass of illegal receivers, and if in the confusion he is interfered with… offsetting penalties. It doesn’t make any sense.

Actually, the Giants player involved in the pass interference (Rich Seubert, #69) was eligible; he wasn’t the player that the Giants were flagged for (Tam Hopkins, #65).

Actually, 50% of the time, although it’s been higher this year.

The NFL specifically reviews this stat to make sure that it hovers around 50/50 to win in overtime, no matter who wins the coin toss.

As for the penalty in question: you hit the kicker, you get flagged. It’s pretty fucking simple. So Johnny Mc-Cost-His-Team-the-Game can shut the hell up.

Hmm. I’m new to football, so I was surprised by the call since it didn’t look like the defensive player DID anything. He just bumped the guy – it certainly wasn’t on purpose or even remotely dangerous. It seemed pretty unfair.

However, since it’s been explained here that it doesn’t matter, any contact counts, I suppose the referee made the right call.

All I gots to say is Go TITANS ~

A W is a W ~

You’ll learn that Shitsburgh fans whine about anything. They whine, whine, whine and whine. They think God decrees that they win. Reality is an unplesant shock. Give them a little latitude, They were aused children.

You are incorrect. In your second example, for instance. One there is a false start, the play is over whether the defense crosses the line or not.

In your first example, it’s a little trickier. It’s still a live play. If the holder had thrown the ball and it was intercepted and ran back for a touchdown, the play stands. The offensive penalty would be refused. If the pass had completed for an offensive TD, it would have been called back. But it still does not allow for an offensive reciever to be interfeared with. The interference is also an infraction, at least as serious as the inelligable reciever downfield.
