TiVo with Integrated DirecTV Question

Anyone here have a TiVo with the integrated DirecTV receiver here? If so, does it record from the cable signal as well, or only from the satellite signal? If so, what brand/model is it?

Mod’s, I’m not polling – I’m look for an answer so I can get one!

I’m currently both a DirectTV and TiVo subscriber, but get my local channels off of the cable. My TiVo and DirectTV units are standalone, and the TiVo is connected (and able to record) from both the cable and the satellite receiver. The TiVo is also connected via serial port to the receiver, so it’s an nice, integrated experience.

I have a good reason for wanting an integrated unit, but while a lot brag about dual LNB capability, they don’t say they still work with cable – obviously DirecTV would rather have me pay for their limited selection, so that could be a factor.

So, again, anyone have or know about an integrated TiVo/DirecTV unit that does definitely work with cable?

THANKS

Yes, I have a DirecTIVO receiver. It’s the Philips DSR6000, and it can only record the satellite signal.

None of the combined receivers can record from a source other than the satellite signal. Sorry.

So I guess that DirecTV doesn’t offer your local channels? Is that why you still have a desire to record cable?

BTW- IIRC it is still very expensive to buy a DirecTIVO receiver if you are already a DirecTV customer.

The reason the Direct Tivo units can not record from any source other than the DirectTV source is they lack an encoder. They take the already encoded signal and dump it straight to the hard drive.

Thanks John – it sounds like I’ll limp along on what I have unless someone else comes along to contradict.

DirecTV only has a few of the local channels on the American side of the river, whereas CBC is a must have, especially for certain sports. To complicate things, I get some of the “missing” English-language cable channels that I don’t get from DirecTV (since I have the Spanish package which substitutes channels from the normal package).

You should try the TiVo Community webpage. A lot of questions are already answered on their BBS. Or ask it there. Response times are good.
