Tivo

Just got back from a vacation, and TiVo hasn’t loaded any programming information for a week. It can’t get a signal from the wireless router 10 feet away, even though the TiVo wireless adapter says the signal is strong. I’ve plugged and unplugged, I’ve tried to change settings, but no luck. All the computers can pick up the signal - only TiVo has turned up its nose and refused to cooperate. I guess it’s like giving birth; you forget the pain and suffering once it starts working again. But when it’s temperamental, all those bad memories come back! And I have purchased more than one (when I first got them my cable company didn’t have DVRs), so I know what a pain in the butt TiVo can be.

Which is it? Is it not getting a signal or is the signal strong? Also, the TiVo loads two weeks of guide data, so you should still be safe.

If you want to try something simple, just for kicks, go into the wireless settings on your router and pick a different channel. As more and more people are getting wireless routers, I’ve been having good luck doing this as the first part of troubleshooting.

Assuming that doesn’t work, we can go from there. Another thing. If the router is only 10 feet away, have you considered just running an ethernet cable to it?

I have that happen from time to time and have to reboot the wireless router. Not sure why, but that seems to be the only thing that works.

I used to have to do that with my old Netgear router. Since I got FiOS and use the router they gave me, I have had zero issues with TiVo.

I think this will work better in Cafe Society.
