*TMI* *Gross* *Cat death involved*- Asstard steers into cat on road.

Im driving home from work yesterday, with an array of thoughts in my head, among them, the Ass Eatin thread. Anyway, a line of cars pulls away from the stop light (Im the second of about twelve autos). We get up to the speed limit and then the van in front of me makes a quick left adjustment in his steering moving himself into the path of what I thought was a brown paper grocery bag lying in the road. Front tire makes contact, with the object then the rear tire. This tan and brown stuff comes flying out from underneath the van as it rolls over the object at forty miles an hour. Im thinking, “wow there was something in that grocery bag”!! Like a loaf of bread or something.
Turns out that the Fucker ran over a gotdamn cat!! The tan and brown stuff was its fur. The poor thing was still alive after he ran it over with both tires. I almost puked when I drove past it because it was still moving its front legs while it layed there. I couldn`t stop (traffic right behind me) but I made sure to swerve around it. I watched in the rear view mirror as other motorists also gave it the swerve.
What kind of asslick goes out of thier way to run over someones pet? What I figured is the cat saw the cars coming and in self-defense balled up in the road to wait out the oncoming traffic. Well this douche-bag goes out of his way to run the poor thing over. I went out of my way to get next to this disgrace of a human being to make sure I flipped him the bird. He looked at me like he was thinking “what the fuck did I do to deserve the finger?”
Asshole.

Whether you like cats or not, this was just unconscionable.
Fucker!

Wait till I start a pit rant about the road construction around here which is responsible for the increase in traffic on this particular road.

Did you see where the cat was coming from? It might have reversed course into the path of the van’s swerve. Also, sometimes in a panic, you swerve the wrong way.
Of course, if it was on purpose, it’s horribly cruel.

Per An Arky from your perspective you have no absolute way of knowing if the van swerved to miss it and the cat zigged into the path of the swerve (which happens more often than you think) or the van went gunning for it. Based on his puzzled response to your finger I’d guess it was the former.

Sorry, I saw the “bag” in the road motionless way before the van hit it. Probably two seconds before he swerved. Also, he corrected too far in advance for it to be a last second get out of the way type thing. Whatever he thought it was, he hit it on purpose. He may have not known it was a cat, but that is hard to believe. If he didn`t want to hit it he would have seen it was a cat at the last second and at least tried to get out of the way.

Let me get this straight; this guy deliberately runs over a cat and you are so outraged and angered by his act that all you do is give him the finger?

That’s mature.

Why didn’t you follow him and confront him and then call the police, 'cause he could be arrested for cruelty to animals.

Not sure where you’re going with this.
I’m more angered now that I was then. I keep seeing this cat rolling on the road under this van.
Most people would not have done anything. The fact that I didn’t pursue the “law” route doesnt say anything about me does it? How could I prove that he hit the cat? The guy would have just said the cat ran in front of his van, or he'll say "What cat? I didnt see any cat."
Plus, in rush hour traffic, it was difficult enough to just get even with his window and get his attention, much less somehow pull him over.
Why the hell am I defending myself, He hit the cat - not me. Sheeesh!

What are the chances the cat survived? If no other cars hit it, that is.

that would end up being described as the incident for which I was convicted of vehicular homicide. No kidding.

?

I can’t imagine that there would be so much traffic that no one was able to stop and take that poor creature to a vet to be put out of its misery. God only knows how long he lay there. I have been known to stop traffic to remove an injured animal, but I guess that’s just me. Traffic is already disrupted, might as well, and then the poor thing can be euthanized.

I think Kallisti means that because of this, he would run the guy down, and use his cat killing as a defense.

Anyway, you should certainly make a note of the van’s description. If the cat did die, the family will probably want to know how, or why. There may be a “Missing Cat” flier, at least you can let the parents know what happened, and they can break it to the kids (if any), and the family will not be relying on false hope. If the cat wasn’t killed, they may be able to find it, get it to the vet, and then ask the police for help in finding this guy. Your information could be useful. Check the papers for missing cats, etc.

I know that if someone killed my dog, while there may be nothing I could do about the sick fuck that did it, I can at least do something with the dog, like bury him or ask my vet for options. I would definately want to know where he was.

I seriously thought about turning around, after I caught up to the creep, and checking on the cat. The least I could do was check the collar for ID and move the cat off the road. You have to experience the traffic situation at this time of day on this road to understand why I couldnt just stop or go back easily. Our freeway is under construction and this is a major detour for the freeway traffic. The incident occured right in front of some homes. Im thinking that the cat lived real close by.

Am I the only one getting mixed signals here? From your previous threads, I would have assumed that this would be a term of endearment.

whuckfistle there wasn’t much you could do, IMO. This kinda reminded me of a thread of ExTank’s where he described a Bradley vehicle rolling over on a man. Just not much you could do at all.

You are quite the humorist !!

GearLube - I know, it`s just wrong to go out of your way to hit an animal on the road. Hell, I even try to avoid birds. Though I never steer recklessly into the ditch or oncoming traffic.

Yes, I agree. I think that most of us are used to being around people who behave themselves. Then we are shocked to experience such cruelty.

P.S. I am glad you are staying out of the ditch. There’s snakes and such in there. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m with those who figure the jerk did it on purpose. I once had to drive a dear friend to the vet, to pick up her dead cat. Her neighbor called when she saw my friend arrive home. While my friend had been out her thirteen year old Persian cat tried to cross the street in front of her house. The neighbor witnessed a big red pickup truck speed up to hit the poor thing. The neighbor couldn’t get a plate but took it to her own pet’s vet(bless her!) to try and save it. But the poor thing was hurt to bad and the vet put it down.

I would act instinctively if I ever saw someone harm a cat, regardless of the consequences. Hail Bast.

What a sick cocksucker.

If anyone did that to my cat, they’d find themselves being run over with a van.

If this is how he treats a cat, imagine how he treats his kids, if he has any.

Not to mention that “the cat in the road” is not a legal justification for a traffic accident. Its an animal, cars doing unpredictable things to avoid animals kill people. We generally see people as more vauable than animals.

If the guy did do it on purpose, then he deserves to be used as bait for shark fishing.

MMMMM Smoked Shark.

I’ve known people who’ve had their pets deliberately run over or shot. It’s barbaric. I don’t know what the best thing to do if you catch someone in the act is, exactly. I know what I would want to do, but it’s entirely fucking illegal, so you shouldn’t do it. I would probably have gone to the law, though, if I could have gotten his license. They may not do much more than call him in, but at least it’s something.
