To make up or not make up...

Teenage female. I pluck my eyebrows. I wear chapstick. That’s it. I’m too tired/lazy/cheap/uncaring/uncoordinated/unknowning to wear makeup. It’s just too much freakin work. And it feels like you’re wearing a mask, and it smells funny, and I’ll scratch my face and it will go everywhere… no thank you.

Look better in it.
Prefer:
foundation
mascara
(maybe) blush
lipstick.

And DEFINITELY nailpolish.

Base, powder, eye-shadow, eyeliner, mascara, lipstick. It has normally rubbed off by lunchtime, and I don’t reapply unless I’m going out in the evening. I will go out without it if I’m just going food shopping. I think it’s just an essential part of my morning ritual, along with coffee and a shower.

I love buying it, though.

Female and I love make-up! I have to have lipstick on when I go out because my lips have little pigment. It sucks that I’m not naturally a rose-bud mouth gal. That said, I enjoy the deep, dark reds with my eyes and dark hair, you know… sanguine wink. I wear foundation on the days I really need to look really good, lighter depending on where I’m going. I can use cover-up if I’m just heading to the grocery store/park/post office and have a zit.

I don’t use mascara that much because I have dark lashes. I wear some blush but I go for a natural look. Basically, my eyes and lips are the things people notice. I’ve gotten quite a few compliments (mostly men) on the color and shape of my lips. They ask me what color I use and I have to admit, I play around with a few colors because the shade I love best isn’t made. I have to mix it. It was very odd the first time a guy said he liked my lipstick. I was at work in a music store and his girlfriend gave him the dirtiest look until he explained that she’d look good with the color I had on so he asked.

Personally, I cannot stand the women who like to color the inside of their eyelid with liner. It makes the eye look too small. I might do the upper lid for a Goth/mod look but it depends on where I’m going. Eyeshadow is an occasional thing for me, too.

Too much make-up is never a good thing. I wouldn’t want to look like I’m in drag or a hooker. Most days, I use my blush as eyeshadow (trick I learned from make-up artist Bobbie Brown). It’s quick and evens out your face. Make-up should be fun, not a chore, and should not make you look clownish.

Female - 40

I never used to wear a lot of makeup. I’ve started wearing a LOT more now. I met a few of Fotos models and was simply amazed at how plain and ordinary they looked without makeup. After a quick session with the warpaint, they became absolutely stunning. I now wear enough to enhance my natural beauty (nice high cheekbones, thanks to my Native American heritage), but not enough to look like Mimi - well, on occasion I will overdo it a bit, but I look more like a $5000 a night escort than a $2 hooker.

I have good skin, so really don’t need foundation. Though like Olive, I have native american genes and thus i guess should enhance those high cheekbones and almond shaped eyes. But really, I feel I look kind of clownish with makeup–at least the way I put it on.

There was a professional makeup artist at my SIL’s weddng. They made my hair LOOK GREAT! But my face looked freakish with that white concealer and two toned eyeshadow.

I wear lipstick on special occasions.

Female, nearing 21.
I prefer not to wear makeup on a regular basis, but I do enjoy playing with it on occasion. Started wearing makeup in general during middle school (wore it every day), then started phasing out how often I wore makeup throughout high school. After about Sophomore year, I really only put makeup on if I was dressed up or going to a party or an interview. Any of the jobs I had didn’t require me to be wearing any makeup (retail, movie theatre, and filing/inventory for a tech company), so I don’t wear it all the time for work unless the setting calls for it. I can do makeup quite well, and “look stunning” when I actually bother, but it’s not something that’s on my list of priorities because I don’t have anything in particular to cover up. The most do daily is to put on either a lip balm or some vaseline on my lips, especially when it’s cold outside.
The boyfriend thinks I look just fine without it, but does like seeing me in makeup on occasion. I guess it’s partially because I tend to make certain facets of my appearance similar to their state in arousal. (Pinker lips, eyes that look more open, etc.)
