Congratulations, and it must feel awfully good. There’s no point in staying around where you’re not properly appreciated.
You will find it so much more challenging–and yet rewarding–being the boss, the one, the only.

Well I’m kinda figuring if they need me, they have minimal if any access to the internet. I will be setting up a website but that will wait till I am out of here and have more time.
Then again I am posting from work…hmmmm MS word makes a lovely HTML editor…hmmm

Best of luck, drachillix. I haven’t yet ever had the fortitude to try going it on my own, but I really admire those who do. (Maybe that’s why I don’t so much mind working for them)
astro, I’d say that computer repair places also get a lot of people who don’t have much to spend. Two years ago, I got laid off from my job, and had zero disposable income. My computer was essential for job searching, and suddenly my hard drive decided it was time to crash. I looked into buying new, but the cost of repair was a good $300 cheaper, and I couldn’t afford to spend more than the minimum necessary. Even though prices on new machines have come down, I imagine repair costs have done similarly.
turns a pale but vibrant shade of verdant emerald
(Cheers, mate, best of luck to you! snog)
Also a HUGE portion of the new machines are $399 after $200 mail in rebate recieved after you sacrifice your soul to AOhelL, MSN, EARTHLINK, whoever, for 2 years. So in many cases the new machines are not truly cheaper especially to broadband users who are not interested in a new ISP.
Don’t even get me started on eMachines…I’m planning on carrying a 12 pound flat back axe to correct major problems on eMachines.
Breath the fresh air of freedom again, my friend!
drachillix, I wish you were here in Kansas! I’d take my PC to you. I take it you make housecalls?
Once you get really started, I look forward to hearing some “stupid PC user” stories!
So what did your boss say when you handed in your resignation?
Good on ya!
I’m still trying to get back into self-employment…Might be awhile though, a steady paycheck is sorta nice now.
Glad you made the leap-

Woohoo! Nude computer repairs!
Did I guess right?
He still has not said anything about it beyond giving me some paperwork to fill out. Our Regional HR person does however want to talk to me next week. Should be ineresting to see whats up with that.
My computer of the last five years is an eMachine. See my thread on buying a Mac Mini to replace it.
(nod to Scott Adams)
Only if you buy the “Indian Chief” Maintenance package.
Ok maybe for an extra fee we can work nude.
“hey there hot stufff, wanna learn what BURST TRANSFER RATE really means?”
Or maybe not since she just cancelled…
Update: Slow but all is well
4 hours of shopping around yeilded a $300 cheaper bill for the graphics on my truck (YES!).
Went apeshit at harbor freight tools…get most of my needed tools.
total of 5 billable hours last week
Having lots of fun teasing the advertising people in town, everyone wants to seel me stuff so I am using these meetings to learn about my options and what kind of ideas they have even though i am nowhere near buying drive time radio spots or rink wall ads at hockey games.
All this before my phone book ad hits.
The magic trick we are pulling is free pickup and delivery for shop work. Schedule a time 24 hours in advance we pick up your machine, bring it to shop…make fixes or upgrades, return that evening or next morning, add an extra day or so turnaround for jobs we need to order parts on. I am also offering to do after hours parts for an extra charge. I am kinda hoping that some folks, esp businesses with existing IT people will be willing to pay extra to get a replacement HD or power supply at 10pm to get machines back online for the next morning.
should be fun to see how it goes… still about 40 days or so till phone bok comes out…
Very cool! I’m excited for you and I’ve been in business for ten years!
Good luck!
