To my pupil's mother

In my job as a swim instructor there are parents that help and those who make me wish that I could staple gun their damn mouths shut. You are one of the latter.

Yes, I know your paying for this and that if your kids is afraid of the water he wont learn to swim, but threatening to spank him because he is afraid wont help me one damn bit!! I’m used to persuading terrified six year olds it wont hurt if they put thier heads in. It is my job so let me do it. I don’t need your help!

I almost laughed my head off when you told him if he didn’t stop being afraid of the pool he couldn’t go to the pool anymore and he said okay. I mean really what did you expect him to say since he didn’t want to be there in the first place? Also your threat to not take him to any more lessons worked like a charm since he didn’t want to have anything to do with those either.

I’m going to teach your kid to swim despite your “help,” but it would be easier by a large margin if you would sit by the fence and clap and yell “Good job” at random intervals like the rest of the parents. So to sum it up. Just sit down shut up and let me do my job!

Preach it! Based on what I’ve heard from all kinds of teachers, this is a common problem.

If mom were so wonderful and motivating children to swim…

Hey, at least she expects the kid to do something. Sure, she’s beyond useless at actually helping the kid, but at least she’s not coming to you stupid excuses about how you shouldn’t expect the kid to learn anything. If only I had a nickel for every time a parent had told my mother “Well, I don’t know what you expect from him. I never was any good at (name a subject) either.” At this point, I’m thrilled just to see a parent expecting a kid to get off his ass and actually work at something, even if the parent is an stupid obnoxious jackass.

What kind of moron expects the threat of a spanking to help a child who’s afraid of the water? Forget swimming lessons-this poor kid will have hell with everything.

I wonder why she didn’t just throw him in the deep end?

My first year teaching, I had a little first grade (female) student who masterbated in class regularly. When we spoke to the mother (we being the school nurse, who observed the behavior, and myself), she said she had seen the behavior herself and would spank and yell at the kid every time she caught her doing it. Never mind why the HELL a 6-year-old girl would be doing this, in class, daily.

UGH! implode

I am a teacher.

I thoroughly detest the tiny minority of parents who shout abuse at their 11 year old kids playing sport.

Just make encouraging noises - let the School coach explain any problem quietly afterwards.

That’s dad’s job. . . . :frowning:
