To Sleep Perchance to Dream...

I am an insomniac, I have spent more nights then I care to remember tossing and turning unable to sleep. Lately I thought I had the evil bug beat, but I found a couple of nights ago that I couldn’t sleep again. When I was younger I read “The People’s Almanac” and thought how cool it would be to have insomnia like Mark Twain…now that I am grown up I know that it is anything but cool.

So I want to know how well do you sleep? Do you have any surefire ways to get to the blessed land of Nod? Is there hope for me? (to sleep, please keep all other smart-assed comments to yourself ;))

I’ve been a chronic insomniac for almost 20 years. I haven’t found anything that works when I hit my tired head to pillow and then get that “BINK” in which I’m now wide awake.

I write. I read. I do a lot to keep myself occupied when the sandman decides to whiz on my slumber, but I don’t sleep.

So, in response to your OP, I have no suggestions, but a lot of sympathy.

Then again, to quote one of the few good lines from “ER”: “I tend to drink, but then I’ve never really considered myself a role model.” – Doug Ross

I have always had problems falling asleep. I go to bed with the TV on so I don’t have to lay there thinking and remembering stupid shit all night. I have also found that since I have been working out regularly I have been able to sleep better.
And, if all else fails, masturbate!
Hey, I figured someone was gonna say it, might as well have been me. It really does work.

Chronic insomniac since the hormones hit at age 12 or so. That’s 24 years of insomnia. Woohooo! What an accomplishment.

I hear lots and lots of orgasms help. Supposed to help migraines, too. Hmmmm… now if I could just enlist someone’s help. We’ll see what happens this weekend.

#straightdope chat doesn’t help insomnia, just causes nightmares. :stuck_out_tongue:
