Why the hell are you searching the internet for whatever random crap you can find about your co-workers? And then, when you find something which is completely irrelevant but potentially scandalous, you send it to our chief operating officer so he can, what, fire me? Or were you just hoping to embarrass me for some reason? What the hell did I ever do to you? WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?
You should be glad human resources didn’t tell me who you are. And that our boss doesn’t believe that what a person does outside the workplace is important in the workplace as long as nobody is hurt by it. Apparently you don’t agree. Fortunately, you’re not in charge, and the people who are in charge are not nosy, insensitive pricks with no respect for other people’s privacy.
My private life has nothing to do with the workplace. I do my job. I bet you’re one of those people who spents 80% of your time surfing the web when you’re supposed to be working. (And, yes, we down in IT know where you go; I’m just not supposed to look, and I won’t because it’s against policy. Too bad there’s no policy requiring employees to respect basic human dignity. Or is there? I don’t know for sure, that policy book goes on for pages.)
So, whoever you are, nice try, but you didn’t succeed. Maybe next time you can find (or make) a web page saying that I eat small children or something. After all, if at first you don’t succeed…
Actually, that wasn’t raised, and if it had been I don’t think it would have been as much of an issue because local law and company policy both prohibit workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.
As far as I know, nobody at my employer, not even the prick who outed me, knows what my sexual orientation is.
Yeah…those policies are funny things, though. All sorts of diagnostics have to be run, to make sure everything is in line. And when you discover evidence that the lamer is spending about 80% of their time surfing, and this gets mass mailed from Hotmail to the entire management staff of the company…well, you know, things like that happen all the time, due to bugs…
My web page is down due to Code Red and AT&T @Home’s overreaction to it (they blocked port 80 to all cable modem customers). But you wouldn’t have found out anything anyway, my home page is remarkably uninformative.
Wouldn’t matter. We had someone who attempted to kill another employee while in the building (tried to push her out a window on the third floor) who wasn’t fired. I doubt I could get anyone fired for spending all of her time browsing the web.
It’s probably best that I don’t know who it was. I might do something that even I might end up regretting.
This page is very confusing! I don’t know why Kelly was afraid for the job. I don’t like people who don’t mind their own business. It is getting so you can’t scratch an itch in public, because it can be misconstrued. One day I had this very very terrible rash on my woo woo and I just had to scratch and scratch and Scratch!!! :o
I know very well what “outing” means, and it applies here. Search some of my past threads and you’ll probably figure it out yourself. Hell, the idiot who outed me did, and you must be smarter than that person, no?
KellyM I think Milossarian was just saying for all we know your co-worker could’ve found something like Pro-Taliban support from a web page of yours. (not that that is the case) The thing is until we know the whole story how can you expect anyone to actively take your side and say “yeah, your right what an asshole”.
Plus the fact you’ve choosen to hide the reason in which this occured over makes my eyebrow raise???
I don’t actually think you would’ve done anything bad yourself just got to wonder what it was that worked this person up to the point of trying to get you fired
I’m pretty sure that Milo just isn’t sure what you’re talking about, and it’s hardly fair to expect anyone to condem something without knowing what they are condeming.
Kelly, if you could explain why you are upset about being outed in a little more detail, it would reduce the confusion dramatically. I’m pretty sure I know what you are talking about from a thread you posted to in another forum, but it’s your choice if you want to clarify things. I know you’re angry, but it doesn’t help to be deliberately obstinate.
I can think of several things that ppl might not choose to reveal to co-workers, and be pissed if they were outed over them. Not all closets are gay. I have known ppl in the broom closet.
