Everyone keeps saying that Silo effectively said “You don’t like it, clean up my mess!”
Did you all forget that Silo couldn’t possibly delete his own post, and so HAD to ask an admin to do it? The edit/delete function is disabled for all but mods/admins. So stop thinking that its all about a rude party guest saying clean up my wine. Its more like a party guest saying, “You don’t like it? Ok, relax, get me a cloth to wipe it up”. If Silo knew how to “bypass” the no edit feature, perhaps he could have, but even a guest spilling wine on your floor might know enough not to go through your house without permission, looking for the cleaning supplies!

I guess since I jumped in with this, I should say that I think the banning was over the top, but clearly mods will do what mods will do, and nothing much will change that. Manny appologised, thats fine, and people have forgiven him. To my knowledge, Silo did the same, and so a bit of the same response would be appropriate. Personally, I’d let him back in, perhaps on VERY STRICT probation, to ensure that Silo’s actions are no longer possibly threatening to the boards.
A bit of give and take, and this whole issue can go away. Thats my HO, and $0.02.
It isn’t up to me, you, or anyone else to say whether they should or shouldn’t. The plain and simple fact that a few of you still can’t seem to grasp is that fair or unfair, they can do anything they damn well feel like doing, because IT IS THEIR BOARD! Period.
Those of you who are whining can continue to whine, but don’t for a second think that it is going to make a damn bit of difference of how Ed and his staff choose to run their board.
Diane, 90% of the things whined about on this board can not be changed at all for having been whined about on this board.
Only the deluded think there whining will directly change board policies (though, like arguing with an umpire in baseball, it may affect the next call), but that doesn’t mean people don’t want to whine and that the release isn’t valuable.
Myself, I dont whine about moderating, mostly because I whine enough about my own moderating elsewhere.
Agreed, whining can be a release for some, but when they start in on the bullshit about having Manny and Tuba fired or telling the admin staff how to run THEIR board, then they need a reality check. This is their board, they can run it however they wish.
The last time I looked, no one had a gun to their head making them participate on this board, but you would surely think so by the slamming the admin and mods have been getting in this thread.
And I’ve been calling Art Howe a dickhead for the last 18 months for being loyal to John Jaha way past the point of common sense.
Do I think manhattan should be a moderator? No. Do I think anything will be done based on my opinion? No. Do I think it silly to tell the moderators how I feel? No.
It’s albeit! Albeit! It’s one word! Not three! If you’re going to use fancy words, make sure you know what they are!

You would have to really hack the code of the message board to a fare the well to manage not to dot an “i”. I won’t say it’s impossible, but I am sure it would require altering the functionality of the board in some fairly obvious way. I say we ban anyone who doesn’t dot an “i” on the first offense, and further get Mannhattan to call them every kind of motherfucker he can think of, too!
But then, I have it on good authority that I am just another asshole.
Frankly, and Goddess knows I’m nothing but frank, but who the fuck cares? Silo was (and is) a boil on our butts for who knows how long? I can’t even count his insipid, narcissistic emails to me bemoaning the fact that I “didn’t like him” or “didn’t get him” … gee, go piss up a rope and go figure… I DON’T like you. I DON’T get you. Why the fuck would I bother?
Just because you get other folks behind you that I do happen to like is no reason for me to like you. Yes, I know. You’ve got your supporters… and most of them I do, personally, happen to like. THEY know that I like them… but I’ve made it abundantly clear… just BECAUSE I like them isn’t reason enough for me to like YOU. And you know, the bulk of them have accepted that.
I am me. I don’t pull a lot of punches around here. I’m a loud mouth bitch… and I’m more than aware of the fact that a whole hell of a lot of folks don’t like me for it… but you know what? There is this wonderful, vocal group, of posters that like me JUST FOR WHAT I AM… just the same way I like them… just the same way they like you. Silo, I think you just counted and banked on one or two people liking you enough to carry you over… that’s not really enough… I respect those posters… and yes, I see and understand why they try so hard to carry you… but I don’t have to like you “just” for them. You see, I can like them “in spite” of you… and I have a feeling, they will STILL like me.
The difference between us? I would NEVER make folks choose. They can support you all they want and STILL not hate me. I’ll bet that just KILLS you… you see, I can accept the fact that my mind and motives are different… can YOU?
Seeing as how I’ve been told before that I’ll be banned if I so much as fart in the wrong place, I guess I should watch my step. Looks like people are being banned for even less these days. This is total bullshit. Mike may have been a dick before, but has proven himself reformed, and even rather civilized. He didn’t do anything untoward, and certainly not anything bannable. Everyone cries “Search before posting!” but when search is effectively neutered, how the fuck does that help anybody? Yeah, maybe he shouldn’t have posted a workaround, but seriously, is that a bannable offense? Or is telling someone who’s ripping on you to “chill out” a bannable offense? Fuck no. I think it’s sad that anyone would even ask Mike to apologize for ‘what he did’. If the administration really didn’t want the workaround published, they should have removed it from his post with a short message why, and done nothing more about it, like when yamsyamsyamsyams.cx is posted. But now, the thread stays, so everyone sees it. Yeah, search goes back two years now, but if what Mike posted was such a horrible strain, why the fuck were long searches reinstated, anyway?
