To the Moon - very cool PC game worth a look

Wow, can I not describe this game. It’s not an RPG/Adventure game…more of a point and click experience.

It’s more of a story than a game. I’ve only just begun and the focus is way more on the story than the gameplay, but the story is amazing so far.

Gamespot raved about it, as have some other sites, if you are curious.

Another site said:

Some are calling it the best story ever in a game(which, if you are curious, I always say is Planescape: Torment).

Anyway, it’s like Memento and Inception combined. You enter a dying man’s mind and try to grant him his one wish. That he went to the Moon. You try to make him believe he went to the Moon so he can die happy.

To do this you enter his memories, starting from old and working towards his youth. Through these memories, you learn his life story and so forth. I haven’t gone far, but there do appear to be some intriguing mysteries in his life.

Very cute, very touching, and perhaps the best soundtrack of the year.

Many have cried man-tears playing the game and listening to the music.
You can get the game here.

Oh, and I don’t work for them or anything. I just want others to be playing it so we can discuss the story.

God I wept like a 12 year old boy last night when I finished it.

Great story. There are some problems with the gameplay however, but nothing that made me want to stop playing.

I keep hearing that. I don’t want to hype it too much, but I keep hearing that people love, love, love the story. I’m excited to play it through.

Wow, I’m further in and loving it even more. It seems that:
River suffers from a personality disorder? But…something that apparently gets worse as she gets older. Sounds made up, but it does make for an interesting story.
But like… what’s the actual gameplay?

Ya’ll should just ignore me. I’m totally trolling with that statement. I know it’s a JRPG and the gameplay isn’t the point.

It’s not really a JRPG.

The graphics style is out of secret of mana, but the gameplay is nothing like one. It really is more like a point and click adventure game.

I believe she suffers from aspergers. She doesn’t die from that though, something else (and unrelated) kills her.

It’s one of the reasons why she has so much trouble expressing her feelings to Johnny.

It’s not a JRPG. To be honest, it isn’t a true game. Kind of a visual novel with continual interaction. So, more like you were inaccurately snarky and totally off topic.

The term, I believe, is Interactive Fiction. Granted, that includes text-only implementations, as well.

I personally will not be playing it because the price tag is higher than I like for the genre, or for fiction in general. Especially for something that apparently does not have a happy ending.

It doesn’t. Oh. I didn’t know this. :frowning:

You… sick… bastard.
Were you setting me up? I totally see that as a happy ending. It was weird what they did, but they fulfilled their contract and got him to keep his girlfriend and even gave him his brother back.
Do you get to play as Ralph Kramden?
I wish I could take credit for that. But, no. I was just going by people saying they were crying about it. While I occasionally tear up a bit at a happy ending, it never dawned on me that people would actually cry.

And if it does, then I’ve just become more interested in this work. Though I have other games that have to come first.
:BUMP: :RESURRECT:

Well, only years later, but they just released a sequel to this game called Finding Paradise. I haven’t played it yet, but am going to replay To the Moon first, then play this.

Anyone play it yet?
