Some are calling it the best story ever in a game(which, if you are curious, I always say is Planescape: Torment).
Anyway, it’s like Memento and Inception combined. You enter a dying man’s mind and try to grant him his one wish. That he went to the Moon. You try to make him believe he went to the Moon so he can die happy.
To do this you enter his memories, starting from old and working towards his youth. Through these memories, you learn his life story and so forth. I haven’t gone far, but there do appear to be some intriguing mysteries in his life.
Very cute, very touching, and perhaps the best soundtrack of the year.
Wow, I’m further in and loving it even more. It seems that:
River suffers from a personality disorder? But…something that apparently gets worse as she gets older. Sounds made up, but it does make for an interesting story.
It’s not a JRPG. To be honest, it isn’t a true game. Kind of a visual novel with continual interaction. So, more like you were inaccurately snarky and totally off topic.
The term, I believe, is Interactive Fiction. Granted, that includes text-only implementations, as well.
I personally will not be playing it because the price tag is higher than I like for the genre, or for fiction in general. Especially for something that apparently does not have a happy ending.
Were you setting me up? I totally see that as a happy ending. It was weird what they did, but they fulfilled their contract and got him to keep his girlfriend and even gave him his brother back.

I wish I could take credit for that. But, no. I was just going by people saying they were crying about it. While I occasionally tear up a bit at a happy ending, it never dawned on me that people would actually cry.
And if it does, then I’ve just become more interested in this work. Though I have other games that have to come first.
Well, only years later, but they just released a sequel to this game called Finding Paradise. I haven’t played it yet, but am going to replay To the Moon first, then play this.
