Aerosmith at any point in time (even the early 80’s!)
You have **cojones grandes **making that claim, sir. Gilmour is no Steve Howe or Steve Morse or Steve Vai in terms of technical chops (and of course, is not named “Steve” - a major requirement, apparently), but his phrasing and melodic lead work is held up by most guitarists as some of the best in the business. The lead in Comfortably Numb is regularly cited as one of the all-time best.
In terms of which band I could be in, honestly it would any band I love that combined great songwriting, decent-to-great musicianship, great cameraderie and mutual respect (on balance) and a great time on the road.
I have been in a few dozen bands - they can be hard, hard work. Some of the observations about Pink Floyd in this thread apply to almost every band. Think of being in a marriage to 3 or more other people with wildly different agendas than you and you may begin to appreciate the complexity.
Right now, the band I would really like to be in is the one I *am *currently in. We play music we all love, our interests are mutually compatible (for now!) in terms of the songs we play, how often we practice and the types of gigs we do - and how to approach decision-making. We all enjoy each others’ company and so grabbing a beer after practice is a given and getting together with families on a social basis is a good time. We basically have our own club or gang - and the funding to make it a profitable affair from the fees we get from our gigs! What’s not to love?
