Tobacco firm Philip Morris calls for ban on cigarettes within decade

But I thought the tobacco firms told us there was nothing harmful about cigarettes?

This is the most surprising thing I have heard any business CEO say.

It’s desperately cynical.

Philip Morris has been leading a desperate charge trying to rebrand their company and obfuscate their true goals. They’re the origins of “Mission Winnow” which, when you cut through the fluff, seems to be pushing e-cigs as a replacement for smoking.

How can we stop people from smoking by 2030? Well, perhaps these e-cigs might help? But only these specific ones, don’t look behind the curtain.

Philip Morris thinks there’s a big market in “reduced-risk products”, including e-cigs and so-called heated tobacco products.

They’re betting that while conventional cigarettes are on the way out, the company can continue to garner large profits by creating and maintaining new generations of nicotine addicts.
