One of my earliest memories is the day FDR died. Another WWII memory is that my uncle came home on leave and we had no butter (it was rationed) for his baked potato and my mother bought some heavy cream (unrationed) and whipped it into butter for him. He had just fought in Germany and after VE day was to be sent to Japan. But he was suffering from what they then called shell-shock, now PTSD, and my mother arranged for him to sent to Valley Forge medical center and he was eventually discharged. A third memory was the day my father (who was just a bit too old to be drafted) sat me down to try to explain the significance of the bombing of Hiroshima.
Incidentally, the fact that I am starting my 90th circuit means I am 89, so not starting my 10th decade. If I am still here in a year, that will begine the 10th decade.

I’ll be turning 67 (a youngster, I guess) in April. Anyway, I just submitted by passport renewal docs today and I’m getting a 10 year one. So at this point, I am starting to think about the odds against me outliving my passport, though I’m guessing at this point they’re about 70:30. I’m also at the point where many things that I’m buying now may be the last iteration.
You live in Montreal, correct? Are you going out for a nice dinner somewhere?
If today you begin your 90th trip around the sun, that means that you are 89. Is that right? The first trip around the sun is from the day you’re born to the day before your first birthday. The second trip around the sun is from the day you turn 1 to the day before your second birthday. And so forth, up to the 90th trip around the sun being from the day you turn 89 to the day before your 90th birthday.

There’s some scholarly debate about precisely which sun he’s orbiting. Some say alpha Centauri, some say tau Ceti, or some other star. But certainly in the Sirius sector, y’see.
