Today in nature I saw

There’s a tiny fawn snoozing under our cherry tree in the back yard right now. I took a photo from my office window so as not to disturb it.

Awesome, I just had one in my yard as well but was too stunned to take a picture.

Mama came to pick him up about dinnertime. Didn’t even thank us for keeping an eye on him, though.

There’s also a little bitty bunny on our front porch. We’re not running a daycare here, critters!

There are now six eggs in the wren’s nest on the porch. Those birds have been busy!

I also took a trip on the lake (way too early) this morning and saw a bunch of birds - like this osprey and heron. Also got some good shots of bald eagles and cormorants.

Nice shots! Interesting to see it looks like your ospreys are still in the nest building/modifying stage. Locally we’ve already had chicks hatched about a week or so ago. Regional variation, I guess.

We saw chicks today too, so I dunno if they were behind the curve or just decided they needed to do some remodeling.

Beautiful birds!

First gator I’ve seen this year. As we drove up, he slithered off the road and into a dry culvert.

Yesterday we took a walk in a semi-wilderness county park and saw with pleasure that a seasonal pond was extremely full. It was more like a lake than a pond, actually, full of reeds and ducks. For most of the year, this pond is dry due to the drought in California.

And the ground near the pond was alive with tiny baby toads hopping in all directions. We had to walk carefully to avoid squishing them.

Gators always impress me. Right up there with bears.

Me too. I’d way rather see a gator than a rattlesnake.

Reading that makes me happy. Thanks for sharing.

We finally had a short thunderstorm on Saturday, causing everything to green up. But it wasn’t nearly enough rain. It’s very odd to be midway through June and not have had any big storms yet.

Do squirrel nuts count?

Where did you find it?

Great picture. Every time I see a fox it’s a blur that’s gone before my phone is out of my pocket.

Farmer’s field in SW Michigan.

This fox was just casually trotting through the neighborhood as I was leaving for work.
